Hello Guys,

I'm enyong from the Philippines, new owner of a 6 month normal BP... Very new to BP's... I will probably have tons of questions... hope you'll be patient and understanding, when my questions seem to be stupid ones...

What is the normal breathing for BP's? do they breathe like us?

no they have 1 lung. They breathe through their nose....never should breathe open mouthed.

Their respiratory system is a lot different than ours. When they breathe, it should be silent. You will see their body expand and contract as they breathe though.

Not to be pedantic, but I'm pretty sure they do actually have 2 lungs however they only use one. Been a while since I had the textbooks out tho lollol

Ya know I read that too and just thought....hmmmmmm....maybe they are wrong....as I have read so much that stated just one. Acutally it stated that Pythons were one of the few that has 2 lungs but they breathe opposite of us. Which is really weird to think about if you break it down. lol. We will have to wait for the experts here. I know they do not use much oxygen. It will be interesting to see who chimes in on this as I would like to know what the real deal is with this.

Thanks for your welcome and replies guys. what I meant about the breathing was the movement of the body when they breath. what is normal?
another question: do they normally move around the cage during the night, as if looking for an escape? or is it hungry?

yea, they are nocturnal and will spend time wondering round the cage at night exploring.

if they are roaming around during the day, check the husbandry and make sure your temps are right and if they are then hunger is usually why they roam during the day
