do i need a tank upgrade.

my girl frineds brothers bp, well lets say mine since i do EVERYTHING, but it IS in his room. anyway, sorry i needn't to get that out, he is in a 30 standerd, lately he has been checking out all of his surroundings more, temps and feeding is great, so im wondering if he needs a bigger cage. i have a 30 long, its longer than a 20 long but not as high as a 30. so my question is should, i move him, oh, he is 2 1/2 foot, not getting into the do snakes like us debate, but he does seem VERY chill, and does come out to greeat us and when i open the cage, he climbs up my arm, so, sounds dumb, is he wanting out or does he need more space, also all my others are in a tub, but since its HIS snake, he like to occasionaly look at it, so no tub

In my opinion, a ball python that is wandering around a lot is stressed. My snakes only come out at night and they basically just poke their heads out of their hides.

I would leave him in the tank he is in. A 30g in my opinion is what you would put a very large adult female in. Not a juvenile male. If he is eating fine then don't change anything. Its better to have him eating then giving him "more room" that he doesn't really need.

stress was the first thing that come to mind, but he eats a medium rat every 2 weeks, mabye i should feed a normal rat every week, he hits the rat like crazy, so mabye he's hungry, I do know a cat tries to get on his cage, at least once a week, but he has been fine since last october that way, so thats why im worried.

If it is a male, just feed him one small rat a week. The females are the ones that eat the bigger meals.

Well if he is eating a medium rat every 10 days, then a small rat every 7 days should be fine. The worst that could happen is that he won't eat every 7 days and only eats every 10 days. Either way, not a big deal. It won't "mess him up".

Re: do i need a tank upgrade.

If he does wander a lot, there is probably a husbandry issue.

I would downgrade him to a small rat, medium rats are most likely too large. My female who is about 4 feet and almost two years old eats medium rats, I can't see a 2 1/2 foot snake eating one of those. Try a small rat weekly, I feel that snakes need to eat every 7-10 days at the most. It will not mess him up either, I'm pretty sure he'll be fine if he's a strong eater.

Check back on your husbandry though, humidity, temps, hides, etc.
