A friend of mine likes to claim that eventually all systems deliver the exact opposite of what the original design was intended to deliver. I think that Unions fit that quite well.
Every year my wife and I go to a Spring Gala put on by our children's school. All across the State schools and parents put these up to raise funds for local schools.

It has become de rigeur at these fundraisers for parents to demand that the money that they are donating be earmarked for the classrooms, the library, a specific teacher, etc. Last year, my wife and I spent almost $1,200.00 making sure that the library and PE are adequately funded through bidding on student art or other donated items.

We live in a fairly affluent area and our kids are in one of the best public school systems in the State. This is inexcusable.
