That's actually a cute name. Oh, and I thought Popcorn was the cat's name... got that all backwards in my last post!

Oh boy, did they ever! I met her the day she was born (it was a friend's "oops" litter), and she was solid white... started to get her points around 3-4 weeks, but the full coloring didn't show for over a year. Now that she's getting old, the gray is starting to set in, and she's fading out a little. How old is Bandit?

No worries about Popcorn/Bandit cross-up. I won't tell them.

I wonder if Bandito was all white as a newborn. I bet he was. He has always had the most interesting markings. Including one paw that has a pink pad, then a brown pad, then a pink pad, then a brown pad, with the "palm" brown, and all the hairs surrounding the pad are white. Not to mention the "bleach" looking marking on the center of his back. LOL

Bandit was a product of September 2001... so he's 8 years old now. Its crazy that so much time has passed. Had him since he was about 8 weeks old.

My sister used to have a cat that was similar to Bandit and Kona, but not as dark as either one. Might be part of what I like about Bandit so much, because the lighter colors on the top of his head and on his shoulder remind me more of my sister's cat. Anyway, she too went through a big color change. I wonder what the official name for this cat coloration is?

The LifeGems thing is a neat idea. I guess in some ways it is kind of creepy, but much nicer than people who carry around a little bottle of ashes still in ash form. The gemstones are pretty and the source would make them very special. (I have trouble calling them diamonds since they are created artifically, even though I know they are the same.) The price is a bit outrageous though!

I think the official name for this color is piebald. LOL Bandit and Kona are medium white piebalds. Someone here suggested ragdoll. And aside from being feral, he could be of ragdoll decent.

I hear ya about calling them just gemstones. And yes, the price is sky high, and I'll go broke when I do it, but there is no price on love for me.

Unsupervised playtime between a cat and a snake would definitely NOT be recommended. Glad you found yours in time!

This totally reminds me of a different time that Bandit experienced being around a snake. It was when he was 3 years old and I had a couple leopard geckos and a couple western hognoses. One of the hoggies got out of the cage and I didn't know it. I was sitting at my desk typing away on the internet when Bandit came to me and dropped my "hair tie" on the floor by my feet and looked at me. I said, "it's okay, thanks Bandit, I'm busy right now." Yes, I talk human to animals. :p He meowed to me so I looked down... yipes!! He had picked up the snake from where he found it and brought it to me. Amazing thing is that even though this cat likes to eat bugs, he didn't hurt the snake at all. The hognose was playing dead too. Poor thing... but that's what happens when you sneak out of the house. LOL The cat cops come and getcha!

LOL... guess he'll think twice about sneaking out from now on. I think my little cat (Bindi) would kill a snake if given the chance, but Kona and Cyrus wouldn't know what to do - especially Kona, who's never caught anything in her 13 years of life.

P.S. In case you're wondering why my siggy doesn't match (my actual 1.2 cats), it's because Kona lives with a friend now... long story, but he was my old roommate and they just bonded too much to separate. He might be leaving the country soon, though, so I'll probably be getting her back next month.

Crazy how time flies, huh? I got Kona in 1997 when I was living in Oregon, and my friend's un-neutered female got out. She was a Tortiseshell with one eye and a stubby tail (part Manx?), and we think she mated with a feral Siamese, resulting in 5 kittens... one was stillborn unfortunately, then there was a white male with gray spots, 2 tabby/tortie girls, and the all-white Kona. I originally picked the spotted boy, but changed my mind when Kona started developing her points. I love Siamese cats, and knew she was getting the markings of one. Think I'll go with your idea, and call her a Piebald from now on.

They both do resemble Snowshoes and Ragdolls (minus the long hair), though...

Btw, I'll see if I can dig up a kitten pic of Kona, since you'll be amazed at the difference! That was 13 years ago, however, so they're probably all in non-digital form...

I know what you mean, all my pix of my horse and I were 35 mm film shots. Next horse I get to have forever and I'll have digital pictures to spread all over the interweb.

Thanks for sharing all the info about Kona and your cats. Its cool to read, especially from another bay arean. BTW, I am taking my non-reptile keeping friend to the serpentarium in Lodi on Sunday, I can hardly wait, never been there before and I fully anticipate that it'll rock 10x better than EBV in both cleanliness, quantity and attitude. Have you ever been to the serpentarium?

OMG, wow, Bandit and Kona resemble those two very much!! I see Bandit looking just like the snowshoe breed. Wow, I'm looking at him and the picture and I see the same markings.

I just called to my boy and he woke up and ran to me... what a love!!

No, I didn't even know that existed! I used to live in Stockton (went to UOP), but wasn't a reptile keeper at the time. What part of the Bay do you live in?

Owning a horse is so rewarding! Horses are my top passion in life. Maybe someday you could find a good horse to lease, less consuming than owning.

I went to the Serpentarium. I'm not sure if they are shy or stuck-up... they had hardly anything to say when I talked to them and asked them questions. The youngest person there, a red head, he opened up about his passion, the sand boas and talked with us. They are moving to downtown Lodi to a "30,000 sq. ft location" so maybe their vocal cords were unfunctional that day.

Anyhow, they have a ton of large reptiles, tegus, pythons, a decent sized water monitor in a pretty nice little set-up, and my two favorites were the legless lizard who was active half the time (pretty awesome to watch him get around), and the very colorful caiman lizard.

Worth checking out if you are in the area, but not for a long haul.
