Help. Savannah Monitor. (it wont kill you to help me)plz.
Hello Everyone.
I got this savannah monitor and well Right now everyone is throwing different information to me about their temps.
Right Now i keep the ambient temp at 95-100(on her hot spot) and a ambient of 80-90 on the cooler side. and her basking spot at 110-115.
I done alot of research on the internet and i get different temps all around
i have people saying that the basking spot should be at 100.
and other people are telling me that its suppose to be at 135.
I need help from someone who have experience with savannah's.
Can Anyone just help me out and tell me if my temps. are correct?
or can you plz give me ideas on around where its SUPPOSE to be.
Thanx.

Your best bet is to pick up the phone and call Pro-Exotics they are the monitor pro's and can give you A+ no doubt about it info.

Hot spot of 135-155. Make sure the hot spot is 'evenly' distributed. A hot spot only an inch or two wide will burn the animal. I shoot for a hot spot about the length of the monitor's torso.
Enclosure ambient gradient between 75 deg. to 90 deg. You want them to be able escape the heat if they want.
With monitors, the key is offering them a good range to use. Do not get narrow with your temp gradients. Same applies for humidity....you want areas in the enclosure with high humidity and areas with low humidity.
Provide the proper environmental options and the monitor will make the correct choices

So far it sounds like every thing is okay as far as for the temperatures. Even your basking temp is okay, I keep my basking spot at 115-125 degrees too, so I wouldn't say it's bad.
What do you use for substrate? I used to use a half dirt half sand mix, but I switched to excavator clay because it holds their burrows much, much better.
If interested in the excavator clay you can buy it at www.reptiledirect.com or www.bigappleherp.com and it is cheaper to buy from there then petstores. Also, I buy the 10 pound bags because it is way cheaper and easier, you will find that out as you get bigger enclosures. Put a nice thick layer down so they can dig into it and go deep.
I keep my humidity at 55-65% and it works out well for me.
I feed mine a live food diet mostly, such as dubia roaches, rat pups, frozen/thawed baby chicks, and superworms.
Since yours is still little, you can feed crickets, pink/fuzzy mice, and smaller super worms or just meal worms.
Hope this helps you some.
