    Tub question

I use tubs to house my snakes, and I keep getting the question from none snake people "why do you keep them there they cant get any exercise or dont have much room to move around?" I am looking for a good answer to respond with any suggestions?

I just tell them that I provide them with their basic needs and they seem to thrive quite well in captivity this way. If they (the people) don't like it... Oh well!

In the wild ball pythons live in small burrows so they prefer small areas

    Re: Tub question

Ball pythons aren't active snakes. Even if you keep a ball python in a larger enclosure, you will rarely witness it "exercising". I take each snake out once a week for about 15 minutes to get "exercise".

Also, they get quite a bit of "exercise" from killing their prey. When they constrict, they flex all of their muscles at the same time and hold it for minutes. You try and do that! lol

    Re: Tub question

How I explain it is, ball pythons are not dogs or birds. Ball pythons in the wild are ground dwellers, who only roam to hunt.

I take my snakes out twice weekly to let them roam around, and all are very healthy and appear happy. If they seem unconvinced, ask them when the last time was they saw a snake on a treadmill or lifting weights at the gym?

By contrast, I once kept a large female ball python in a very large enclosure, believing it was better for her. Not only was she miserable and crabby, she had problems with sheds and feeding. I finally had to admit I did not know what was best for her, and gave her to someone with more experience.
