    Mouse issue.

    Hello everyone!!!

Not really a mouse "issue." However it was feeding day, I went to the pet store, got a mouse. So i was on my way home and notice the mouse I had just purchased had the biggest set of kahonas ever. haha for a mouse they were fairly large lol. So i taped the feeding today and if you turn the volume up you can see what I yelled right after the strike HILARIOUS!!

"you guys"? Hopefully you weren't lumping all of us (BP.net) into that catagory? I have pet rats that I enjoy almost as much as my snakes and honestly feeding day can be tough for me. I just love keeping snakes and this is a necessary part of keeping them.

p.s. I didn't watch the vid, so I can't speak on its behalf. IMO...if you've seen one feeding video...you've seen them all. They are fairly one dimensional.

I'm pretty sure he was just showing some friends or/family who had never experienced a snake eat before what happens. People who haven't seen it before get excited, it's crazy to watch but I highly doubt he was sitting there commenting on how great it was to watch the snake kill the mouse. It's not really a big deal. It's cool to watch, to be honest. My family hates my snakes, but my mom like's to watch me feed them because she thinks its interesting.

Just my input, basically, no reason to get all defensive with him. He wasn't hurting anything.

As for the mouse with the big kohonas, those were pretty big. It's more impressive when you see good size rats! Haha

Every single time I feed one of my snakes, I get joy out of it. I am still nearly as much in awe of how fast they strike and how effective of a death machine they are as I was as a child who occasionally caught a wild gopher snake, would keep it for a week or a month, and feed it a few mice during that time, before releasing them again. These are amazing animals, and their method of eating is dramatic.

It has nothing to do with the kill, and in fact on the occasions when I feed f/t, I don't react any differently.

I feel pretty much the same joy and awe seeing my mice nursing their pinkies, watching a nature show on TV, seeing a well trained horse performing dressage movements, or even watching human athletes in the Superbowl or the Olympics.

Even going with the assumption that these young men were a little more focused on the kill and a little less focused on the awesome performance of the snake (and I really didn't get that impression from listening to what they were saying anyway), who cares? Look at the world around you, what is on TV, in the movies, on the news. If someone enjoys watching their snake kill a mouse, it is hardly something to be concerned or judgemental about.

    Re: Mouse issue.

The only people that were watching is me, my step brother and a friend of his. The only part of the feeding I watch is the striking and killing. After he strikes the mouse and kills it I say "ok, now dont bump the table" That way nobody disturbs him. And at the end I said ok "thats enough" and shut the camera off. I watch the strike cause it is astonishing to me how quick and powerful they are. After he kills the mouse I turn the lights out and leave the room. As did everyone else. We didnt bother him or interfere with the feeding.

Ive also tried F/T a number of times before and he has refused every time. That is why I feed him live and Im not big on hurting animals and I dont know a productive way to stun the prey. But as I said I just watch the kill to make sure everything is ok so hes not bitten by the mouse or anything then i turn the lights out and leave.

I think they had a friend there who had never seen the awesome power of the constrictor. As far as the laughter, most of that was about the size of the mouses testicles. I think your being a bit to sensitive. I also enjoy seeing the power and beauty of my snake taking a meal. It's really very amazing. I think that your very bothered by the feeding part. I know some keepers really don't like that part.

Well I feed live and I find it amazing everytime. Yes I watch to make sure the snake is fine.....but I also watch because the strike just blows me away. Its just part of a life cycle.....geez....I have kids over many times that want to watch. And yes they get excited...not to see something dying...to see how incredible it is.

its always fun to see someones reaction that has never seen a snake eat before. Today is rat delivery day Only one who eats live outta my collection right now is the baby pied ball. Every1 else is on small frozen\thawed rats. Even the boa rescue eats larger frozen thawed rats

Well they have to kill it before they can eat it, or as Ted would say you have to kill it before you can grill it....
