If the humidity is kept between 60% and 70% for young Ball Pythons, you should not have to soak them for a proper shed to take place.

If you cannot get the humidity high enough, try making a humid hide box and placing it in a neutral area in the cage.

Also, you should only mist once a day, the excess moister needs time to evaporate so you do not get mold or fungal growth. This can lead to other problems like scale rot etc...

Handling your BP during shed phase can possibly cause undue stress, I would only do this if it is necessary.
