    Well, I use coconut substrate which traps all the liquids. When I spot clean, I just get a big handful around the spot. I find that the coconut stops any unwanted smells. As long as you replace it about once a month, you won't get any trouble with bacteria build up or un sanitary conditions for the snakes.
    I am surprised you went from aspen to paper. I was on paper first and I hated having to clean up the entire tanks every single time.

    Oh, you might consider feeding a larger prey item. Most bps outgrow small mice very quickly.
