Jonesin' for a show
Anyone else on the forum got a hankerin for a reptile show to either window shop or purchase? Now that my animals are all in perfect health (although two hognoses are on feeding strike), and my rack is situated and allowing my snakes to thrive, I want to get the boys I've been looking to add since last fall. A mojave hatchling and a spider hatchling. I wouldn't mind a pair of lessers, in fact, I would love it, but I may have to wait. We'll see though.
The next show on the agenda for my area is San Mateo - April 10 & 11.
Whatcha lookin for and when's the next show you'll make it to?

Re: Jonesin' for a show
I'll be going to the sacramento show.
If I can get a job I'm on the hunt for a female pied and a male pastel lesser/butter.
I'm also interested in a female spider, fire, vanilla, and lesser/butter!

I also will be going to the Sacramento show. I might go to the San Mateo show since the breeder I normally buy from (feeders and snakes) will have a booth there.
Looking forward to them, and cannot wait! Will be looking for a female het pied if I don't have one by then.

I went to my first "big show" and was very disappointed. I'm not sure that February is the best month for a show (Tinley show).
For those that went to that show, how does it compare to a Daytona show ??

You'll have a better variety and choice of animals, if you wait until the summer to buy from a show. Most breeders have sold out of most of their animals from '09, and have very limited stock available right now.

I'd take shows with low supply over what we currently have out here. One or two shows a year in state. The next closest are a 6-8 hour drive in Cali.

You are absolutely correct that there will be a larger variety to choose from at the summer shows. But that doesn't mean with the off-peak shows that there won't be any animals or a poor time to be had. And after a bad experience with ordering a snake without seeing it in person, I will only buy an animal I see in person. It also helps me to go to as many shows as I can - I won't allow myself to own the 1,000,000 animals I think are awesome, so going to the shows is satiating for me.

Is there a Hamburg, Germany show too? I thought there was, and that it is a huge show, but then I see from your post that there's a Hamburg, Pennsylvania.

Re: Jonesin' for a show
I'm hoping to go to Havre de Grace, MD March 6th, however, everytime I've had off from work for this show, we have had a major snow storm. This is my birthday weekend, too, so for all of you planning to go, expect bad weather .
I also just found out that Repticon will be in Baltimore, MD in May, so hoping to head there, as well. I will probably just be window shopping for BP's, talking to breeders, getting info, possibly purchasing supplies for my future BP!
