So what's the difference between the student version and full version?

Nothing! They told me in school that we can't use the student version to make money and such. I'm sure Adobes website spells it out somewhere, but as far as the program their is no difference.

Think of it this way, Adobe wants it's program to be what professionals use. So if they allow students to learn the software at a discounted price they will turn around and use Adobe when they become professionals. They don't want students to only learn 1/2 of their software so theirs no difference between student and full versions.

I could make a design(logo) for a paid client, that’s getting paid using the student version.

Exactly! I'm not sure how they could tell, but I'm sure if they wanted to they could.


I have, but I didn't get paid for it. I think it's a fine line that many people just ignore.

Right, there is no difference in the functionality between the full version and the student version.

The student version is offered at student discount rates because...well, students are broke - and software companies want you to learn how to use their tools.

The deal with student software is you cannot create something and make a profit off it.

You can upgrade to the full version and then start charging for you work.

So if I bought the student version and wanted to design my own site could I publish it since I'm not paying myself?

Well,

technically - no.

"Not for Commercial Use" - is what it says on the student version. If you build yourself a website for your business, you're using it for commercial purposes.

But, I dunno where the line is drawn. As a college student, I'd use student software to build my portfolio - well, once I get out into the job market, it would be my portfolio that I would use to promote myself...

I dunno...I'm not a lawyer, nor do I know what the law specifically states. I know, vaguely, because I've purchased a lot of student software.
