    T-stats in the Pet Stores...

Today, while I was out running around, I decided to stop by some of the pet stores to look for some aspen. The first shop I stopped at was one from a local chain. There, on the shelf with all of the other herp supplies for sale, was the Alife thermostat. I thought this was a good sign that a pet shop would at least have some type of t-stat available. Then I saw the price tag... $49.99... My next stop was at a local mom and pop pet shop, and what do you know? They had Repti-temp 500r's on the shelf. I thought maybe the t-stat wisdom was finally catching on. Except, they too, were charging $49.99, so once again And now the suprise. My local PetSmart actually carries the Helix DBS-1000 for $160.00. I was amazed that they would carry such a high quality item for reptiles. I played stupid and asked the sales clerk what they were for and was even more amazed when they explained it right... I guess it is kind of crappy that they are marking the prices up so high, but at least they are making them available to new reptile owners...
