Difference in size until you can put them together?

The process breeders use to breed snakes, like lower temps, lighting, reintroducing the snakes, ect... is to increase the odds for them to breed. You can do nothing and the snakes can breed. Having more than one snake in an enclosure is not recommended, There will be an area in that tank that is most desireable. They will lay there one snake on top of the others. Looks like they are cuddling, getting along very well. NO! the one on top is showing dominants. the ones under that snake is being stressed by it. which will lead to problems. I had two normal females in a large tank ( ran out of rack space ) until I was able to build another rack ( not too long ). one ate and the other didn't, both snakes very close in size. when my rack was complete both snakes ate with in a week. building the rack was high on my to do list for the reason everyone posting here is telling you. If you don't have the space, then do the right thing for your animals and keep only one, and get a smaller enclosure, bigger is not always better.

My question to you, was this a question that you was looking for an answer that was best for your snakes, or the beginning for your debate?

I think you would be okay with multiple snakes in a cage -- I think what everyone is saying is that there shouldn't be multiple ball pythons. What you need to do is keep one, and then trade the other three up for an eastern diamondback, a retic, and a corn snake -- then you should be golden!

But seriously -- don't cage multiple snakes!!!!

Hi all, thanks for the responses. Well, first it's 3 females and one male, and I was under the impression that certain conditions need to be met for any actual fertilization to occur, I mean really specific conditions. I've read what you have to do to get your snakes to start breeding and I don't really go that far, I just keep them as pets.

A few guys I know told me that unless certain conditions are met, they may mate, even several times in the breeding season, but almost guaranteed won't have eggs.

I live in an apartment and don't have much room for a rack at all, even the tank I have is big for my room lol. Don't worry though, they're not stressed out, I have tons of hides in there, and the adults are always in them. The hides are tight and they always love to cramp up inside them, I don't keep them in wide open spaces. It's really not as big as you guys think, the tank is probably around 5.5 feet long...

About R.I though, what are some causes of it if you mind me asking?

First of all, ball pythons do not need exact conditions to breed. But certain conditions basically ensure that the female will produce eggs. Saying that they can only produce eggs under certain conditions and only under these certain conditions is ignorant.

I know how apartment life is. I live in a VERY small room and let me tell you, a rack is MUCH better option than housing 4 ball pythons in a 80g tank. For reference, my rack takes up a 3' by 1.5' space on the floor and is 4' tall. Saying you don't have enough space for a rack when you are using an 80g tank just makes no sense.

I am worried that they are stressed out. Just because they don't look stressed to you doesn't mean they aren't.

I don't mean to sound harsh but when you come to a forum seeking advice, keep an open mind. I know what you want the answer to your question to be and I know its hard to accept the answer you don't want.

We are really just out to help you care for your snake as best as you can while saving time and money. An 80g is just not suitable for a ball python or 4 ball pythons for that matter.

I agree, a rack would take up less space than the tank! Also if you can't take care of multiple snakes then you shouldn't have them. I want one of every morph but I don't have the room or money so I don't! When you get a larger place than you can get more snakes! Only keep what you have the ability to care for!

If you don't want to make a rack, or it is going to take a while before you can you could put dividers in the tank so each snake has its own private section of tank.
