Has anyone had any experience with them moving their personal stuff?

Heres my situation and I would like the opinion of someone who understands the rules of the industry.

I had to move about eight boxes, and a fairly heavy wood bedframe <no mattress> from CO to NC. Most estimates came out around 1.3k. Wich was not worth the value of what I was moving so I decided to opt out and just leave the property.
This company called me, I explained to them the previous estimates and that I was not going to move for that much because of the value, blahblah.

So the agent says he can do the move for alittle under 800, I say this is fabulous and I sign a contract. Actualy two because I have two moves, but thats besides the point right now.

Now when the movers show up, not only do they make inclinations that I have to pay extra for the offload, but they contact someone on the phone while at my house, who claims to be dispatch and asks me to give them 200 in cash. I refuse, because A: not a chance, and B: Who just happens to have 200 in cash on them?

Now Im getting a call saying that my weight is actually 1k over what was estimated and I owe them an additional 500 at delivery, which brings the total up to what I said I didnt want to pay. In the contract it does state that overages will need to be paid and that the initial weight estimate is just that.

So my question is, and this is to those who actually have some experience in either the moving field or law, how much of a chance do I have in fighting this? And how can I get proof as to how much my property actualy weighed? Because I have my doubts it added up to 2.5k lbs

but I would venture to guess you may need to start looking into a lawyer that understands the laws on moving.

Either way, you're gonna get headaches and spend extra cash you didn't expect to. Sorry man People suck.

The agent that I initially talked to got ahold of me, and is going to look into it. Hes having them mail him an itemized list of everything, weigh everything in front of my husband when they get there and assures me I wont be paying anything more than what I was quoted.
So sounds like it should all work out well, he also said if he finds out they are scamming they will be fired.
Personally if it was a couple hundred over I could have understood and would have paid, but 1k seems excessive to me >.>

You could always play hardball and tell them to just keep your stuff.

They may try to hit you with storage fees, depends on the contract but, if they were trying to scam you, having a load that the owner won't take will make them, the drivers, look pretty bad to the boss.

That crossed my mind as well, its pretty much all stuff I could live without if I needed to <hence why I wouldnt have paid more for the move in the first place> But it sounds like the world movers agent is going to handle everything for me. So Im a pretty happy customer again, will just be interesting to see if those weights were actually correct.

My moves have always been handled by companies contracted by the Air Force and billed to the Air Force, so I haven't had too many problems about getting paid for damages or being overcharged. Sometimes it's been a hassle, but I always got what I wanted in the end.

Except the one time I had stuff moved from CA to MD and I pretty much had to chalk that up to a loss. I would advise you don't let your guard down until everything is actually settled and you have your property (undamaged) and you've paid a reasonable price. Until then, whatever any agent tells you doesn't mean everything is ok. Don't be rude, but be persistent and keep as much documentation and photographic evidence you might have to support a case in small claims.

Yah thats pretty much where I am right now. I emailed my agent some information to make sure it corresponds with the drivers and just crossing my fingers untill its all done. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt and the agent is quite the actor if he is pulling my leg, but Im remaining positive as well as doing what I can to protect myself until its all resolved.
