    Thumbs up Disease-Parasite Questions

Okay, as far as quarantining goes, you're supposed to keep a new arrival or sick reptile in a separate room from your established collection.

What if you had a sick reptile on one side of the room (along with no other reptiles) and your collection on the other side of the room. Would it still be possible for your reptile to spread a disease or parasites on to the other side of the room where the collection is? For mites, I don't see how they could travel as far because of how small they are and the carpeting, but for an disease like RI would a reptile only be affected if it is close to the enclosure of the sick reptile?

Some diseases and viruses are transmitted thru the air, so unless you have a completely different location, you can have some animals contract air borne diseases from an infected animal.

    Re: Disease-Parasite Questions

As stated previously there are air borne diseases...such as IBD...just to name one. As far as mites...they can be transferred from your body or on your clothes to the other snake. With that in mind I don't see how they couldn't go across the room with such a short distance.

Sorry .....I know that is not what you really wanted to hear. I tend to keep mine in a seperate room that is all the way on the other side of the house.

    Re: Disease-Parasite Questions

This is just a question that's been in my head for a while, I'm not going to have anything in my room that needs to be quarantined. I have a separate room for my quarantine animals, and I would never think of doing what I was trying to explain in the post. This is just a question I had in my head for a while so I just decided to post it. This could also be helpful for those who don't really know how to quarantine snakes & reptiles.
