Contemplating expanding our family via adoption
My wife and I are exploring expanding our family via adoption. The concern was brought up of what the adoption agency will think of putting a baby in a house where snakes are present. I only keep ball pythons with the exception of one Dumeril's boa so the snakes aren't exactly a threat for any logical person and they are also kept in a separate building so there are none in the house. For a logical person, this should not be a problem. But as we all know, a lot of people aren't exactly logical. Has anyone been through this process that owns snakes? I'm not looking for opinions from people that haven't actually been through the process or don't know someone who has because we can speculate all we want on what they will or won't think. Any input on what I'm in for would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I don't have any direct experience, but as an adoptee, I want to thank you for your loving decision to adopt a child!

Re: Contemplating expanding our family via adoption
My sister and nephew are both adopted- my sister as an infant from China, my nephew as an 11 year old out of foster care.
My sister & BIL had ball python when they did their home study. Their ball was in the house but properly secured and it was never an issue. They said their case worker didn't love reptiles but just didn't sit next to the tank. lol

I think in your situation you'd be fine, especially since they're not in your house. (Not that it SHOULD matter anyways...logically as you said.)

Re: Contemplating expanding our family via adoption
After having 4 children of our own, the wife and I thought about adopting a child. We have a lot to offer a child. We found that most adoption agencies were pushing an older child on us. We told them we were looking for a child between 3-5 years old. We were looking for a child from our heritage. The agency kept showing us pictures of 8-14 year old kids. Nothing wrong with that age, but we were looking for children the age we wanted. Long story short, we were never able to be matched with a child of the age we wanted. We also had a few questions asking about our firearm collection and our pets. Once these questions were answered, they weren't brought up again.
Good Luck!

Re: Contemplating expanding our family via adoption
My mom's friend had adopted all three of their kids from Russia I think but they had like 3 monitors and 4 pythons and the agency didnt say nothing and since the snakes arent in your house than I dont think they'll worry but if they are concerned just prove to them the place where the snakes are at is child proof or something and I hope the best for you adopting a baby

Im sorry, it wasnt Russia. It's Romania and for adopting a baby, they have alot there and with Haiti there's alot of people adopting from there also.

Thanks guys! I'm actually adopted too. I'm still not certain we are going this direction or not but we are considering it and I didn't want the snake issue to derail it if we do decide to pursue. Sounds like it won't and didn't figure it would but you never know.
