Trying to decide if I should go with a kingsnake

I currently have a BP and a Red Tail Boa and really didn't have any intention on going with corns or king snakes. However, I recently ran across someone who is selling a beautiful albino kingsnake. There's just something that draws me to this snake and that in itself is worth my attention and curiosity. What I'm looking for is to have someone set my expectations as far as owning a kingsnake. My snakes are my pets and as such, I will only own snakes that I'm able to handle due to size but snakes that like being held. So with all this, is a kingsnake one in which I should add to my collection? This is the snake in question, just for added effect lol

Re: Trying to decide if I should go with a kingsnake

I see that somehow we missed your question when you first posted it. I primarily keep ball pythons, and I swore that I had no interest in keeping any other species of snake. Until.....along came Skittles, my albino striped cali king. I LOVE this snake (so much so that I got him 2 girlfriends a year later - more as an excuse to get more cali kings! LOL).

Skittles is very laid back, handles nicely, doesn't musk any longer, and a great tempered animal. If this snake has not been handled much, it may need you to work with it at first. But, based on my limited experience with my three - I think they're awesome snakes to have in your collection!

Re: Trying to decide if I should go with a kingsnake

I agree that they are great snakes, Albert is my buddy. He was my first snake and still my favorite because of it. I will never get rid of him, he's just to good. Not to mention how easy their setups requirements are. Albert has never had a bad shed no matter what his humidity was.

The best part is, I know when I hand him to someone that has never handled a snake, he is going to makes convert's of them and they will love snakes afterwords. I love the ability to turn peoples fear of snakes into curiosity and respect for the wonderful creatures they are.

And my little Albert does it oh so well

Just remember that more snakes means more cleaning and more feeders.

Well mine have attempted to bite several times but they were 5+ years old when I first got them. I think if you got them young or from someone who held them a lot you would be fine. I have seen others that were really nice snakes. But other than the attempted bites they are cool snakes.

I have 1.1 california kingsnakes. I think they are great, and that is one beautiful specimen you have found. DO IT!
Mine are tame as can be, super easy to care for and great to be handled. I really think they are some under rated snakes.

Re: Trying to decide if I should go with a kingsnake

I love my king. She wasn't handled by her old owner for a year before I got her, but she's tamed down very quickly with handling. She bit me once, but that was my fault (I didn't wash the rodent smell off of my hands).
    Go for it!
Just 0.1 normal BP, 1.0 mojave, 0.1 California King, 0.1 Saharan sand boa, ~20 hermit crabs, a Patriot crab, 5.0 rats, and a herd of mice and ASFs
