Question Do Only Baby BPs Ball Up?

I ask because our BP only balled up during the first couple of months we had it. I don't mean a coil, like a rope in a neat coil, but an actual ball. Ours hasn't done that since around September. Is it only babies that ball up?

It totaly depends if they feel secure around you, If you have a confident python it shouldn't ball up as easy. Now on the other hand if you have a snake that hasn't been held for all of its life its going to be a little more uneasy around you.

Re: Do Only Baby BPs Ball Up?

I have about three who still ball up tight as adults. They are handled with the same frequency as the rest of my collection. Some are just inherently more shy than others, regardless of how much you handle them. One of them is the snake in post #2's avatar. She's always been a timid snake. That picture was as a baby and as an adult she does the same thing.

I don't think mine has ever balled up and I've had him since he was a juvenile. He sort of balls up in his hide but he has no choice so he can fit inside there.

Re: Do Only Baby BPs Ball Up?

I have a few adults that will usually form loose balls when I pick them up. They are ones that I got as juveniles, not hatchlings, and that might influence why they are not as secure around me, or they may have just not been handled much as all before I got them.

I'm sure it is a combination of an individual snake's personality, as well as what they have been accustomed to.

Re: Do Only Baby BPs Ball Up?

For the first few months your Ball pythons was adjusting to its new environment. Now that he's settled in he's more used to his surroundings and doesn't really need to ball up anymore. Babies will normally do it more often than adults because they get scared more easier since they are more vulnerable and small.

I have some adults that are just shy BP's and will still ball when first taken out.
