Breeding Statistics / Part III
I know that the last two times we posted this, everyone found it very interesting, and I couldn't help but put it up again. I have seen a very large increase this year in questions from new breeders that this data can answer. Contraty to this quote,"I am going to try and keep a running tally this year, so that the data will already be compiled once the last baby hatches", that I made last year, I did not keep all of the data, and had to go dig it all up. Once again, I know that this data comes late, but I still thought people breeding now would find it interesting. I posted links to the previous year's postings, however, all of the data from all three years is included in this thread. I did grab some data this year that I missed last year, so there are a few holes in the data.
Below is the link to the 06/07 year's thread, followed by the 07/08 year's thread:
http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...ad.php?t=53385
http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...ad.php?t=87360
Without further ado, here are the numbers (the first number is the 06/07 season, the second number is the 07/08 season and the third number is 08/09):
Total females in our breeding program: 40 / 71 / 94
Total females that copulated at least once: 35 / 68 / 84
Total females to lay eggs: 21 / 45 / 58
Breeding success rate: 53% / 63% / 62%
Total Slugs: 4 / 20 / 30
Total infertile eggs: 4 / 4 / 14
Total eggs that went bad during incubation: 12 / 18 / 13
Average Clutch Size: __ / __ / 5.7 eggs (I didn't figure this out the first 2 seasons)
Total good eggs that went full term: 118 / 224 / 306
Total hatchlings: 118 / 221 (3 died in egg after cutting) / 282 (24 died in egg)
Total hatchlings that died: 0 / 2 / 2 (1 died within 1 week, and one died after three months of thriving. My guess is that it had some internal problems, as it regurged it's last three meals before dying).
Final Sex Ratio: 55.64 / 130.91 / 133.149
As I stated in last year's thread, I didn't collect this data in 07/08, but I got some of it this past year.
Lightest Hatchling: 23.0 grams / __ / 24.0 grams
Heaviest Hatchling: 87.6 gram / __ / 92.6
There are too many hatchlings now to keep up with this. Sometimes data collection can impede the important stuff, but the data below was on a pretty good sample size, and I thought it may help someone, so I left it in here.
Total Hatchling Weight: 6911.3 grams (we hatched 15.36 pounds of snakes)
Average Hatchling Weight: 60.1 grams
I hope someone could find this interesting, or at least, it can help someone plan for how there seasons will work for them in the future.

Great Info Thanks. Out of all those breeders do you have an average weight of the females that laid? and also how many have you had get egg bound ?

I definitely don't keep track of the females weights (I have that data, but it would take to long to compile). As far as egg bound, that is easy: 0 occurances.

Re: Breeding Statistics / Part III
I love seeing this data come out every year. Thank you so much for taking the time to compile it all and post it here for us less experienced keepers and breeders!

Re: Breeding Statistics / Part III
Thanks Tim - what a good idea. It will be neat to see the trending with my own breedings from year to year.
I think I'm already tracking all these data points except hatching weight out of the egg. Hmmm....
