If the light is going to be for tank heat you will want it to be on 24/7 so use a red or moonlight bulb instead of your planned white light.

They will get all the day/ night clues they need from the ambient light in your room most of the time.

So, if you can get away with it with your ambient room temps, you might be able to dispense with the light all together and replace it with a cool end under tank heater if it needs a little boost.

But any heater will need to be controled in some way. In a stable temp environment you might be able to get away with dimmer switches but a thermostat is by far the best solution - it's the one piece of kit you don't want to skimp on as it is probably the most important for the health and happiness of your snake.

You will also want to buy one of the acurite digital weatherstations with probe to get a good reading of the conditions in the tank if you do not already have one.
