this is the class of peta members
not sure where to put this so move at your will

copyed from wdef incase it gets taken down
It's a classic move, straight from a slapstick comedy.
But it was no laughing matter today when someone pushed a pie into the face of Canadian Fisheries and Oceans Minister Gail Shea.
Shea was giving a speech in Burlington, Ontario... southwest of Toronto.
The accused pie-thrower, Emily McCoy, was arrested and charged with assault.
Police say McCoy is a New York member of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
She was apparently upset about Canada's seal-hunting program.
PETA's executive vice-president issued a statement saying, quote, "A little
tofu pie on her face is hardly comparable to the blood on Ms. Shea's hands."
Though, the group's campaign manager says it didn't organize the incident.
Shea, for her part, was not hurt.
She says she's more determined now than ever to support the seal hunt and Canadian sealers.

I wonder how severe the charges are against her. Will it be a night in jail and a $50 or will they push for something harsher which she deserves.

Re: this is the class of peta members
Did you see the other PETA story at that website?
Last week we told you about Memorial Hospital's decision not to hire smokers because of health risks... Well PETA says that step doesn't go far enough.
The animal protection agency says the hospital should stop hiring meat eaters.
Memorial Hospital says it will no longer hire tobacco users, although current employees are grandfathered in.
PETA says the hospital should ditch drumsticks as well as cancer sticks.
And that those on a Vegetarian diets are significantly healthier than carnivores.
Memorial hospital says the demand is "a little over the top..."
What a bunch of nutjobs.

Not that I give a monkey arse about PETA.
But, what's the story behind the seal hunting? What are they hunting seals for?

Well there are two kinds of seal hunt, the inuits seal hunt and (for lack of a better term) 'everyone elses' seal hunt (although both happen at the same time of year).
The inuit have been hunting seal for over 4,000 years, it is a mainstay to their diet and part of their traditions and culture.
'Everyone else' started tagging along for the pelts to make clothing. Lately (because of all the negative media hype) however the demand for seal pelts has gone down.
That is how it was explained to me anyways. Despite all the negativity, it is no more cruel or inhumane than an average commercial slaughterhouse.

PETA is the most backwards organizations. I don't understand how they get any recognition for anything.
Maybe PETA supporters are better suited to be in our burgers than animals..

Not only that, but the kinds of seals that are hunted (grey seals, there's strict restrictions on harp seals and there's talk of putting them under protection for a short period) NEED to be culled every year, because they're all eating, all killing, all breeding little hellions that would destroy the fish stocks otherwise.
A hakapik, while it may be icky, is actually more humane than a rifle because it kills the seal instantly by destroying the brain - the same method we espouse here for killing reptiles. Seals are fast, it's easy to miss with a rifle and only wound the poor thing, and a wounded seal quickly becomes prey for the bigger things in the water up here. Polar bears and orcas aren't quite as kind as humans.
People throughout eastern Canada eat seal. They're not endangered, there's no reason for the seal hunt to be any more controversial than moose season, deer season, duck season or rabbit season.
