Looking for some opinions on boa's.

I currently only have BP's but I'm looking at picking up a boa. Now, because of a wife who's made a deal with me that if I was to keep snakes in the house, I had to keep them relatively small. That being said, I'm looking for suggestions on some boas that max at at between 4-5 feet if possible. I'm also looking for something that does like human interaction.

Also, as far as housing for boas, are they much different in terms of temps, humidity etc?

Well, if you want a 'real' boa your mostly out of luck. Dwarf species are rare and expensive! You could probably stay within that range with a male hog island or male bolivian, but they still might push higher than that! Same husbandry for those types of boas.

So sand boa and rosy boa are really your small guys. Little different husbandry for these guys.

Depending on what you are calling a normal boa..... BCC females can get quite large up to 13 feet from what i undersand havent seen one that big, anyway bci (like columbian) boas usually stay under 10 feet most males usually not much more than 7. I talked with a nice guy that breeds central americans @ the phoenix reptile expo in november he said they rarly pushed over 6 ft but again i am not sure on this....

Sorry, the people I'm talking with here refer to Columbian's as regulars. Looks like I'm hooped with going with Boas hahaha. This is becoming more work than picking out the right dog lol.

You went to the show? And what person were you talking to, I think I may have purchased a male boa from him.

OP: At the place I work at there are males we have that are 6+ feet. The males we have are pretty girthy too, so I don't think a boa constrictor would be the best choice if you're looking for something in the 4-5 foot range. I would suggest a Rosy boa or Kenyan Sand boa since they are relatively easy to care for and stay in the range you are looking for (Kenyans get a bit less than the 4-5 foot range, more like 2-3 feet).

I feel like I've jumped around with what I feel I'm going to do, but I guess when you just start out, that's what happens. It looks like I'm going to have to stick with my bp's. I just wish they weren't so damn expensive up here. I see some of the deals you guys get and my jaw drops.

Re: Looking for some opinions on boa's.

There are quite a few dwarf boas that stay around five feet, or shorter. I own Nic boas and Sabogaes that both stay under five feet. Check out these two sites to learn more: http://www.cuttingedgeherp.com/ and http://www.riobravoreptiles.com/.

Re: Looking for some opinions on boa's.

I know I have seen quite a few breeders with hog island boas that stay pretty small, one woman I know her male only reached about 4 foot, and he is 16 years old.
