Beautiful snake! I've always wanted one after reading an article in Reptiles and Amphibians magazine several years ago. However, I've just never come across one at pet stores or shows. Anyone know the legality/regulations of owning Indigos in California?

There are a couple of great breeders here in California - no permit needed if you buy the animal within the state.

Hey Skiploder, I've read up on them a little and folks say that the indigo should not be handled, that they stress easily and are not to be handled. How true is that from your experience? Is it like the garter snake - that most people think they shouldn't be handled - but in reality they are fine being handled if they are acclimated to it?

I might've gotten one of those giants, but when I learned of their not to be handled status, I just let it be. I can go a long time without handling my snakes, but having one that shouldn't be handled, or needs caution to handle, is not top on my list. Just like I have always wanted to have a copperhead... or an eyelash viper... or...

Never owned one but admired them,Enjoyed seeing them in the florida wilds..
Aren't they very active , alert and because of the high drive a bit on the messy side to keep ? A beautiful serpent though..
