No Petlands here. The Petsmart closest to me is great everytime I go in there. All animals seem to be kept well and in good condition. The Petco only seems to make minor mistakes. Sometimes they'll have two baby ball pythons in the same enclosure.
Now... There is a pet store called The Reptile Room that I've been to twice now, basically to get some feeder mice. The first time I went in there I was looking at all the animals they had. Started off nice with a pair of rhino iguanas, some medium sized monitors and a couple large bearded dragons near the door. They have a friendy dog that comes to greet you. I make my way around and there's a lot of kingsnakes and corn snakes.
I get to the second wall and there's a dead turtle in on cage flipped on its back. Behind me there is a stack of glass tanks that are empty for sale, except in one there is a ball python! There's no substrate, water bowl or hide and there is poop in there so this wasn't some short term temporary thing. The poor thing had what looked like an entire shed cycle stuck on him. I can't believe that a place that deals only with reptiles could have examples like this. After making my way through the place I notice a chameleon tank near the front desk. Half of them looked like they had half a shed cycle on them. I bought a large mouse for $2 this time around.
The second time I went there, earlier today, I needed a small mouse or rat pinky for a tiny male pewter I just got. He's just 60 grams and on the skinny side. Long story short I got a lot of attitude in return for my business. He breeds ball pythons, I couldn't possibly be accurate with anything I said. I think I'll let the $4 I spent there be the last. It sucks that this specialty place is worse than the big box stores here. Oh, and there was a male pied for $2,000 and a female het albino for $375 in a display case built into the front desk.
