Re: So now my entire collection is going to die?

Heat packs and insulated boxes! I lost power last winter for 73 hours and it got really, really cold inside...like low 40 something. I packed the Leopard geckos in Rubbermaid bowls and put them in their shipping boxes (thank God I had the foresight to save them), put the Carpet pythons in pillow cases and popped them into an insulated box I had saved from a rat shipment and just put the tortoise in another rat box with a lot of newspaper. Tossed heat packs in and stacked them all up in the dog's crate then covered the big pile with blankets. I checked on them daily and changed the heat packs as quick as I could...they all survived. They were cold, but they were alive.
By the way, anyone know how annoying tortoise claws are on styrofoam...for 70 some hours...non-stop?? hahaha

Re: So now my entire collection is going to die?

Everyone's already given advice, but I'll reassure you that 65 degrees won't kill your collection... my house is rarely ABOVE 65 inside, and my snakes have gone sans-heat-tape before. In fact, two of my corns only get room temps, and they're perfectly healthy (corns don't need as much heat as BPs). So while I'd definitely follow the advice above if you can, I think you'll be okay for a day or two.

P.S. Are you in California, by any chance? We're getting slammed by a storm, and I thought we'd lose power too!

Re: So now my entire collection is going to die?

I was out of power for 19 days in our large ice storm a few years back, and it was cold enough in the house to keep food frozen, so I took my snakes to a friends house, when their power went out, I went to a hotel. Those hand warmer packs do very well for short term, and are quite cheap!

Indoor propane heaters will keep a 12x14 room at 85 easy on low setting. I have one with spare tanks just incase. Walmart sells them for about 80$ and worth it.

In the mean time use warm water bottles in the cages till you get a heat source.

    This is what i use
