Exclamation So now my entire collection is going to die?

    I really hope not.
Powers out, the electric company doesnt know how long until it will be fixed.
the house is 65 degress F.. none of the heat tape, heat pads or bulbs are working (obviously).. one snake already has a RI and is on baytril, but with these temps i dont know whats going to happen.. I wonder how ling the snakes can go without heat before they begin to develope RI's.. I;m not worried about the colubrids but all my pythons n boas im really worried about.
    Nothing i can do..
just hoping the power wont be out for long.

Just thought i'd come on here and complain about it.
really hope i dont lose all my snakes

Re: So now my entire collection is going to die?

At 65 theyre not all going to die, its only about 8 degrees less than breeding season cooling temps. Im sure Africa gets a cold spell here and there too. At the worst, you can expect a bunch of RIs. Just bump the temps up and boost your humidity once the power comes back on and good luck.

EDIT: You have more than BPs, I dont know about the others temp requirements.

If youre really worried, go buy some handwarmers, wrap em in a dry wash cloth and stick em under the tubs to provide some semblance of warmth while everything is going wrong.

    Go get a generator!

That or go get some insulated boxes and start throwing some heat packs in with them if you know it's only going to be a few hours.

In case of emergencies you might either want to invest in a generator or this http://www.mrheater.com/product.aspx?catid=41&id=24

Do you have a power inverter in your car? you could run a chord from the car to a space heater, cheaper than a generator.

Not a good idea. Most car inverters can only handle about 150 watts... much less than 400-1500 watts that a typical heater will use.

its worth the money...get a generator...not only for your snakes but for your family. Im also not sure if an oil heater would work as well....(live in az...never even really seen one before). But thought I would put that out there as well. Also...do you have a breeder you know near you?? You might be able to move them there if they will let you or to a friends house that has electricity.

Again I have no idea in this area just wanted to throw some things out there for you. I wish you all the best and wish I lived closer to help you out.
