Wow, this movie just hit a billion dollars worldwide. Kudos to James Cameron who now has 2 movies that made over a billion under his belt.

I think the plot was more interesting than people give it credit for. After all, this wasn't about a nature-loving native people who represent some ideal--that's actually a misconception that the money-grubbing aliens fell prey to.
It's not about nature worship or religion, they're actually part of something that the humans don't have any conception of. Every living thing on that world is connected to every other living thing, either directly or through a single intermediary--not metaphorically, or symbolically, but literally. The Gaia concept isn't just an idea there, it's completely literal and physical. The bad guys were warned why what they were doing was a bad idea, but didn't listen. The consequences weren't delayed by very long--predictable, but extremely fun to watch. Unlike Earth, Pandora is perfectly capable of defending itself. There's no need for people to speak out to defend it--if people cause trouble, Pandora will kick them off.

That's not exactly an environmentalism lesson--it's more about not being so narrowly focused on a belief or a goal that you miss seeing what's actually going on around you. Along with a healthy portion of watching people get what they deserved.

i thought it was good. neat concept, i liked all the animals and junk. only goofy part was that they couldn't think of a different name for 'unobtainium' lol

obama and his kids went and saw this movie, one of his daughters leaned over and whispered into her dads ear; now thats how you spend half a million dollars.

We saw it the day it came out in IMAX 3D. I have to agree with those that said it is a spectacularly beautiful movie to experience but that the plot was quite weak. I have never been so mystified by the visuals of a movie nor been so drawn into an alien world to quite that extent. I even swatted at an insect that appeared to be flying right in front of my face! Amazing! That made it great fun in spite of the storyline.

Agree with the o/p that they overlooked making it even slightly realistic how quick the natives went from halting to perfect english....

I wasnt at all excited to see this movie but after my gf talked me into it I was pleasantly surprised. It wasnt nearly as bad as I thought it was gunna be. Although I saw it in 3D. It might have added to the effect. Who knows. I would recommend it though.

I was going to see Sherlock Holmes but the next movie was an hour away & avatar was like 15 minutes so I watch it & end up liking it... really good movie... I get you about the broken english to perfect english but again it's just a movie

Well, I understood that. But it didn't strike me as anything really new and unusual. For as much money and as many years as went into the making of this, I really would have prefered a plot and story line that was more involved then what I could have seen on a saturday morning episode of Captain Planet. I still loved the movie. Visually it was a feast for the eyes, intellectually I thought it fell kind of short. Just my opinion.
