Have a Coke and a smile

After only one clutch last year I needed to upgrade from a mini fridge since there will be 6-8 clutches between my partner and I, and the mini fridge would have been very cramped.
We found this killer Coke cooler on Craigslist, guy wanted $250, offered $200 and he took it.
Works perfect, light, fan, everything in really good condition.
A Herpstat t-stat is ordered and on the way, along with some new flexwatt and a fan dimmer switch set up since I don't want to ruin the working status of the cooler.
One half inch hole in the back and away we go...

Pay no attention to the child looking for attention, lol...

Good luck to everyone breeding this year

Re: Have a Coke and a smile

Very Nice!! I did the same thing with a snapple refridge. One word of caution.. I disconnected the compresser and just ran the fan alone.. after just a few hours the temp inside was over 90 degrees from just running the fan ..I could not believe the fan gave off that much heat. I was hoping to use it to circulate to air, but after seeing that I opted not to use it. i use a computer fan to do so now.
I have a helix hooked up to it and it works great. I was lucky and got mine for $100.00 in super clean condition!! your gonna love your new set up
Here is a pic of mine. it is the one on the right, the one on the left is my old incubator. I am using the larger for Colubrids and the smaller is for my ball python clutches.

Re: Have a Coke and a smile

I use a Dasani Water fridge the exact same size as your Coke as my main cooker -- I LOVE IT!!!

I agree that you must watch the heat from ANY fan you use. Many will generate to much heat.

I use a desk fan with a very small magnet. I bought them a a CVS pharmacy for $10. I have been using the 1st of 4 that I bought for almost a continuous year!! When you find one that works for you, buy a few extra.

I also use a Herpstat and heat tape. Good luck and beware of the HOT FAN!!!!!!!! Happy cooking...

Re: Have a Coke and a smile

We are thinking of using a bathroom ceiling fan plugged into a dimmer that plugs into the wall, think this type fan will be too much heat?

I heard dimming the fan may also cause it to run at a higher temperature?

We figured the fan inside the cooler would be too much and disconnected it and also disconnected the compressor below, leaving only the light working

What a difference this will make after using a repti-temp t-stat and a mini fridge last season.

Thanks for any tips from those of you that have already done this type of incubator,
    your help is much appreciated

I did the whole free fridge thing, it worked like a charm also.
I used a mini though and haven't enough room for a full size fridge so this ended up being perfect sized for anything I can produce for a few years.
I love the clear door on this

    Ready to rock and roll
I unplugged the top fan, knowing it would create heat, I also keep the light off, same issue.
I used a new bathroom ceiling fan and it runs full time on a dimmer switch.
The temps are same on all shelves!! woot.
