I worked for walmart for over 10 years. I did not work in a store but in logistics. It was a great job. I made 35k a year, worked 3 - 12 hour days and got almost 8 weeks of vacation a year (this of course was at the end of my career there). Also had decent health insurance, much better deal than i get paying for my own.

Walmart is number 1, so everyone targets them. Walmart employs over 1.5 million people, so of course your going to have screw ups and douchebags that work there. And since they are number 1, they of course will get the most publicity.

No offense to trevor, but unions are a big problem with the way the US job scheme is. They are part of the reason why the auto companies are in trouble. Wait, which auto company isn't in trouble? Toyota....are they union?

Unions served their purposes quite well early on, but they now create a lot of problems as well.

People want to blame all of their problems on walmart, but walmart creates a ton of opportunity.

They provide low skilled jobs for people (and no one is forced to work there), and they also offer opportunity to advance within the company. Where i worked there it was pretty much impossible to get fired, so you could truly be a human degenerate and have a job with potential opportunity.

Also when they build a store somewhere, watch and see all of the other non-local businesses that come right behind, and no one complains about these.

But anyhow, most of these "local" businesses don't want to change with the times. And then they can't keep up with the pace of the current trends, they go out of business and blame walmart. When in fact they need to take a look at their business practices and make some changes instead of crying about walmart.

Robert Greenwald did a documentary on Walmart and it featured a hardware store and claimed that walmart put em' out business, turns out the hardware store was already well on its way out before the walmart was built.

Walmart is just an easy target. You can't blame walmart for getting the best price. it's what everyone does! how many times have you seen a snake for sale and you haggle and lowball on the price? it's how it works!

Do they offer junk? of course they do, but it's because people keep buying it! Target is really no better either. They are just a bit more upscale junk.
