O.o I've never had any issues with wal-mart. The only times I've returned anything were cds/games, and clothes that didn't fit me (people will sometimes buy me clothes that end up not fitting me). The people have always been friendly..And yes, the extended warranty that you can buy for electronics that adds another year or so after the manufactures warranty expires does exist. I have it on both my tv and PS3...Meaning if it breaks and it can't be fixed, they'll replace it.
I quite honestly have a thing against target. Any time I've been there all the merchandise is torn up and partially opened. Quite honestly, some of you come across as paranoid. If anything, the big super wal-mart has helped the small nearby town. More jobs, and better food (especially considering the only grocery store always had bad food and people would flock to the next town's wal-mart anyway).

Meijer is just weird...
About the only thing I really like about that store is the pet section is better than walmart or target lol. Oh and the section w shampoo & bathroom stuff has some products and brands you dont see anywhere else.

I don't mind Wal-Mart that much... someone else a few post ago nailed it. If they weren't the only thing open 24 hours, I most likely wouldn't shop there as much.
I do wish we had other options in Stillwater... being a smaller college town, Wal-Mart is really the only big store. We have some other clothing stores (Old Navy and such) and a couple other grocery stores, but I really wish we had a Target, or something else around. The next biggest town in *any* direction is at least an hour away, so if you can't find it at Wal-mart, your going to have to drive aways.
I do need to start shopping at the other grocery stores, but the problem is, when I shop, it's not just for food, or just for one type of thing, so if I go somewhere else, I end up running to several different stores... and with my truck, that is just not an easy thing to do.
And I'm not sure what kind of damage Wal-Mart has done to local stores, but I know Pet-Co (hate that store) shut down a really nice lil mom and pop pet store. It was the only other place for pet stuff. That really sucked. =/ As far as Wal-Marts go, we now have two super centers, and not a whole lot else...

Re: I am tired of buying shotty merchandise from walmart
I worked for walmart for over 10 years. I did not work in a store but in logistics. It was a great job. I made 35k a year, worked 3 - 12 hour days and got almost 8 weeks of vacation a year (this of course was at the end of my career there). Also had decent health insurance, much better deal than i get paying for my own.
Walmart is number 1, so everyone targets them. Walmart employs over 1.5 million people, so of course your going to have screw ups and douchebags that work there. And since they are number 1, they of course will get the most publicity.
No offense to trevor, but unions are a big problem with the way the US job scheme is. They are part of the reason why the auto companies are in trouble. Wait, which auto company isn't in trouble? Toyota....are they union?
Unions served their purposes quite well early on, but they now create a lot of problems as well.
People want to blame all of their problems on walmart, but walmart creates a ton of opportunity.
They provide low skilled jobs for people (and no one is forced to work there), and they also offer opportunity to advance within the company. Where i worked there it was pretty much impossible to get fired, so you could truly be a human degenerate and have a job with potential opportunity.
Also when they build a store somewhere, watch and see all of the other non-local businesses that come right behind, and no one complains about these.
But anyhow, most of these "local" businesses don't want to change with the times. And then they can't keep up with the pace of the current trends, they go out of business and blame walmart. When in fact they need to take a look at their business practices and make some changes instead of crying about walmart.
Robert Greenwald did a documentary on Walmart and it featured a hardware store and claimed that walmart put em' out business, turns out the hardware store was already well on its way out before the walmart was built.
Walmart is just an easy target. You can't blame walmart for getting the best price. it's what everyone does! how many times have you seen a snake for sale and you haggle and lowball on the price? it's how it works!
Do they offer junk? of course they do, but it's because people keep buying it! Target is really no better either. They are just a bit more upscale junk.
