Re: I am tired of buying shotty merchandise from walmart

If you ever get to see it, there's a big expose on Walmart where they follow around some of the higher up people, it's sad.

Basically they have these scouts that go out and find failing or slower moving towns and put in a Supercenter. They offer prices that are just MIND BLOWINGLY low until all the other small businesses go out of business since they just cant compete.

After that, they raise their prices back up if not higher than what the smaller places sold them at before they went out of business.

SO walmart doesn't have the lowest prices. The electronics suck. There is no selection of clothes, especially for a child, the household supplies are more expensive than other department stores etc..

Besides, if you do happen to find something big like a TV, computer, microwave, PS3, for less at walmart... Best Buy will do a price match! Plus they offer a warantee that walmart can't touch.

Even the grocery section at walmart is more expensive than grocery stores.

Walmart gets a thumbs down from me.

I have seen that video, it is about what 9 or 10 years old? there is also a new one showing the changes, have you seen that one? The thing about them going into towns and lowering prices and putting them out of buisness and raising prices back, was NEVER actually proven. A third party, unaffiliated with wal mart, did a survey of such said wal mart and over about 10-15 years the prices only went up about 2.5-5%

Re: I am tired of buying shotty merchandise from walmart

    No I haven't!

    Got a link?

    Perfect example.

My local store started carrying an automotive product called Sea-Foam at 5 something a can.

This was like HALF what the local parts stores sold them at! Guess what? I got into the habit of buying it there from then on.

Next thing I know, it's over 9 bucks a can!

They get ya buying crap there with their prices, then raise em up slowly and quietly.

I see it with stuff year after year.

Re: I am tired of buying shotty merchandise from walmart

What I found amazing occured on Dec 27th of this year. My bedroom TV went up, so I went to Best Buys to look for a replacement. I noticed a guy walking around each person looking at TVs. When he got to me, he told me that Walmart had a better deal on the TV I was looking at. I asked him about an extended warranty and he told me that his wife had just returned a TV after 9 months and Walmart just gave her another. I asked him a few questions and you could easily see he was a paid shopper for Walmart. He started taking pictures of the displays, then he made a phone call and went down the line and reported to someone on the phone the model numbers and their prices. So I know he's a paid shopper, if not a Walmart employee.

Only problem with his statements, Walmart doesn't sell the Samsung I bought. Walmart sells the bottom lines of most manufacturers. I was buying a 1080p 32 inch HDTV, Walmart doesn't sell them, only the 720p. To be honest I lost all respect for Walmart after experiencing this.

Re: I am tired of buying shotty merchandise from walmart

I don't like buying from Walmart. I would much rather buy from a small business but my husband and mother in law are ALL about saving money. My mother in law makes huge trips every few days to Walmart to get all her stuff. My husband and I go to a grocery store like Ukrops and Kroger and I start looking for things on our list and my husband says "You know, this stuff is cheaper at Walmart."

See that's not the point! I would much rather support local business than support a huge chain store. When I went to school in Wise, Va, a supercenter opened during the first month I was there. People flocked to this store because it was easy to get to and had everything they needed. Over the course of a year I slowly saw the small businesses lose business and eventually you didn't see many cars anywhere but Walmart. It made me feel horrible. I hate how Walmart comes into a town/city and just wipes out all the small stores. That's what happened with the pet stores around here. My FAVORITE pet store that I drove 30 minutes to go to had to shut down because they could not compete with Walmart and Petsmart.

Not to mention Walmart's employees are terrible. I mean, some of them are nice but most of the time when I go shopping they don't have near enough people working the lanes and the people who stock are listening to offensive music and just throwing stuff around.
    Under Construction.....

Why be mad at Wal-Mart for a crappy microwave? Shouldn't you be mad at the manufacturer?

Hmmm, this brings 2 things to mind.

Jeff Dunham talking about how rude wal-mart greeters are, and an episode of southpark where Wal-mart takes over the world. Sad thing is, its 100% true. people there are rude, and get upset when you ask them for help, especially in electronics, but you need the help because EVERYTHING is locked up, thats why theyre there. And that does happen with the smaller businesses. Luckily, I work at a mom-n-pop pet shop kinda thing, and we have all of the high end dog and cat supplies that Wal-mart wouldnt dare touch, because it costs too much money. So little things like that will not be going anywhere.

Re: I am tired of buying shotty merchandise from walmart

Well the deal in this household is that if I want to be able to afford to eat, sometimes walmart is the place I will have to go. Now I will say, they are not the cheapest on everything and I try to stay aware of places to get things besides walmart.
I saw a bumper sticker once that said. "Walmart, Home of really cheap crap"
    Pretty true at times.
For Over the counter meds, walmart is best. For food, the new walmart brands are often just as good as the big name brand and cheaper. I do not buy anything of great importance, like vacuums and such, there.

    Its like anything else...

Shop there once or twice, shame on them.

Shop there any longer than that, shame on you.

    Perhaps try Target?
