Sorry.. yet another GIANT plot hole.. as per goofs reported IMBD
Plot holes: Near the ending of the movie, after the Na'vi have taken over the base, when they are marching the human military back onto the cargo planes to leave they are not wearing any masks to protect them from the air.

Re: EEEK Avatar (thumbs down)
Avatar is not the first nor the last movie to have a lot of plot holes. It isn't worth taking a fantasy movie and getting overly irritated at all the miniscule little things that weren't quite right.
From my experience with writing and creating visual things for story telling it is important to make things that the viewer can relate and connect to. Sure, the Na'vi were a lot more humanoid than what we would probably find on any other planet, but it enables us to connect and empathize with the race on a visceral level.
Yes, I enjoyed the movie. Sure, it had it's quirks/easter eggs but you will be very hard pressed to find a movie that doesn't.

I don't know WHERE you got that from but it is wrong. After seeing the movie twice I remember pretty clearly that humans are ALL wearing masks at the end, unless there's a stray somewhere that I missed. (the second time around I was paying more attention to visualization and possible accidents such as that). Also, not wearing masks would not be considered a 'plot hole' because plot holes have to effect the plot and story itself. Even if they actually were missing the masks, which they were not, it would not have been incredibly detrimental to the story at the end of the movie.

Black crystal...
You are right. IMBD is wrong...
I do want to share an edited for language version of what a friend wrote about this movie..
it is rather amusing.. whether you like it or not.. the review is hilarious.
2D -- we don't have an IMAX down here.
The CGI and visuals were stunning, probably the best I've ever seen....
The storyline sucked dead rhino behind...beyond dead rhino behind...a whole herd of dead rhinos with putrid dead behinds.
That had to be the dumbest, most derivative, most boring, most annoying plot and dialogue in a movie ever. The technology was idiotic and made no sense -- it truly was an insult to my intelligence. The characterization was also an insult to my intelligence and stupidly one dimensional beyond belief. Don't get me into the overdone "message" -- unless you want a rant.
I hope to one day see that sort of CGI work (although maybe not so much of it; it was spread on a bit thick) in an actual movie.
And if I ever see a blue cat-elf alien I'm afraid I'm going to try to beat it to death with a tire iron (seriously, those things SUPER ANNOYED (replaced bad word) me).
By the end I was starting to hope they'd make an Avatar 2...so the East India Trading Co. (er, the corporation) could come back with the regular military and kick the behinds(Bad word) out of the darn (bad word!!) blue catsmurfs. One word: napalm
Although I did have fun saying "win ga po" (together with appropriate hand signal) during the flick...oh, that and "tatonka" -- just because my behind was numb and I was bored silly by that point and wanted to slap Jake Sully.

Wow, this movie just hit a billion dollars worldwide. Kudos to James Cameron who now has 2 movies that made over a billion under his belt.

Re: EEEK Avatar (thumbs down)
--SPOILER ALERT---
I think the plot was more interesting than people give it credit for. After all, this wasn't about a nature-loving native people who represent some ideal--that's actually a misconception that the money-grubbing aliens fell prey to.
It's not about nature worship or religion, they're actually part of something that the humans don't have any conception of. Every living thing on that world is connected to every other living thing, either directly or through a single intermediary--not metaphorically, or symbolically, but literally. The Gaia concept isn't just an idea there, it's completely literal and physical. The bad guys were warned why what they were doing was a bad idea, but didn't listen. The consequences weren't delayed by very long--predictable, but extremely fun to watch. Unlike Earth, Pandora is perfectly capable of defending itself. There's no need for people to speak out to defend it--if people cause trouble, Pandora will kick them off.
That's not exactly an environmentalism lesson--it's more about not being so narrowly focused on a belief or a goal that you miss seeing what's actually going on around you. Along with a healthy portion of watching people get what they deserved.

I remember them all wearing masks at the end as well.
If any were not, remember that you can hold your breath for a while, and there were a number of situations where people were depicted without masks, who then put them on after a short time outdoors.
As for the Na'vi--either you love blue cat people, or you do not. ^_^

Re: EEEK Avatar (thumbs down)
I haven't read through the entire thread, but I thought it was a good movie; however, a great piece of "art". What I mean is that the story was so-so at best. But the visuals and the ground that was broken I think is amazing. The world and the people were completely believable as far as looking real (not necessarily believable as characters themselves).
This movie is the closest by far to CG looking like real life. The world of Pandora is breathtaking. If you do see it, definitely see it in 3D. I think this is a must see movie, and a must seen in the theatre movie as well.
