Re: Hanley's new crib!!!!! He's movin up in the world!
Hi,
Well the good news is the digital acurite weatherstation with probe is only around $12-15.
The base unit measures temp and humidity and the probe measures temp so by moving it arround you can get a really good idea of the enviroment.

Dr.Del where can I pick one of those up? The area I live in does not have many reptile stores, all I have access to is petcos and pet smarts, who we all know charge an arm and a leg for things.. thanks again for the info.

Hi,
Well we used to just say walmart but apparently they have stopped stocking that particular model in some places.
This site has them though or you can usually get great deals on ebay.

No problem,
And yes those are what we recommend for all the reptile temp and humidity checking.
Temp guns are better for random spot checking but for simple setting up and monitoring those should work just fine.
And it is definately worth checking out the local hardware stores - they are really meant for people to keep an eye on the weather after all.

Thanks again Dr. I'll look at the hardware store... do you mount them in the tank? or does just the prob go in? I've never used them.. if ya hav a pic that would be great. If I can see how ya have it I understand things more clearly.. thanks again

Re: Hanley's new crib!!!!! He's movin up in the world!
Hi,
Well the base unit measures the humidity so to read that you would need to put the whole unit in the tank. If you are only wanting to monitor temps though you could just use the probe.
For a normal BP enclosure most people would have the base unit sitting at the cool end of the tank and have the probe inside the warm end hide.
While setting it up though you would be moving the probe to various points so only fix it in place once you have decided what you want to measure and where.
