    What do you think?

I'm thinking of getting 2 Bloodreds (6 months old) to breed in the future. The breeder told me their parents are both bloodreds, to what do I have to pay attention to be sure they are both bloodreds?

    Re: What do you think?

Clear belly. Should have diffused sides (looks like someone erased or rubbed their sides; though not all have this), "bald head" as a hatchling, possible "skull" pattern on head.

Biggest thing is a clear belly. If there are any checkers, not a bloodred. Here are some of mine to help you out, though keep in mind there is a lot of variability.

Amber blood - notice how her sides look blurred; that's diffusion. Also if you look at her head, it almost looks bald except for the two spots.

Ghost blood - she has a great example of a "skull pattern". Look at the markings on her head and they look like they eyes and nose of a skull. Many have this, but not all.

Granite (anery blood) hatchlings that I hatched. You can see how one has a fairly bald head, and the other has an enlarged skull pattern. Good example of the variability, but notice both have diffused sides.

Here's a butter blood I hatched out. His skull pattern is attached to the rest of the pattern, and his diffusion is only so-so. But he has a clear belly so I know he's a bloodred. He's a good example of a blood having mediocre markings for one even though he is one.

Hope this helps! Good luck with your pari.

    Re: What do you think?

    cheers

    so basically -

    1) side diffusion
    2) 'bald' head
    3) clear belly

usually indicate that a hatchling is a true bloodred.

    Thanks!

You got it! But again, especially with diffusion and "bald" head is not always the case (though usually). But clear belly is alway there.

    Re: What do you think?

Hi, I went to see them and I am now more puzzled then before.

I saw their father and mother, their mother is a nice dark red with very diminshed pattern, and a white chin, their father is a nice red with some pattern showing.

The young ones (around 6 months) do not have a bald head, have some diffusion on the sides, but their belly is not clear, some of them have fewer checkers than others and instead of black the checkers are brownish.

What do you think? can these actually be bloodreds, and if yes do I have to choose the ones with the least belly checkers to have the best specimens?

    Thanks a lot.

If it does not have a clear belly, it is not a bloodred.

As black crystal said, if there are checkers, then not a bloodred. Is it possible they're het bloodred? What about the parents' bellies?

Any chance of being able to post up some pictures?

    Re: What do you think?

    Oh it's a pity :s

I thought the parents looked ace...

and I live in Malta (Europe) and there are practically no other bloodreds in circulation...

So what do you think the parents would be?

    Re: What do you think?

Hard to tell from your description. Its possible that one of them is a bloodred. But without pictures going to be hard to tell.
