    Helix Question

I bought a used helix dbs-1000 i think its called it's the 1000 for sure just not sure the first letters sorry .

but here my question .. no mater what temp i set the helix to it reads 4F lower so if i set it for 90F the actual temp will be 86.. is this normal ?

im thinking this prop might be screwed up .. its just a rubber thing ... isn't there suppose to be a metal prop atttached to the rubber part ?

and i know its 4F off because i bought a heat gun thats 1 degree acurate and i have three other props that are reading 4F lower ..

the helix prop is taped to the heat tape and set for 97 and the heat tape reads 93 with all three props and the heat gun..

any answers ? about thhe prop am i missing a part if so that would be why its out this much or are they normally out like this ....

No man that's how their probes are.

Sounds normal to me, having to set the thermostat a bit higher than the actual desired temp.

    Got yourself a good thermostat

I dont use a helix I have a herpstat but if it is off by 4 degrees and you are sure of that turn it up 4 more degrees and it should be fine as long as it keeps it there.

Sounds normal for a Helix. I like the Spyder thermostats, you can tweak them to calibrate the probe.

    Re: Helix Question

Ah ok , i was just thinking spedning 100++$ for a thermostat that they would be dead on .. but guess i was wrong and yes its 4F out but once you set it right now its set for 97 the heat tape stay between 93.0-93.9 never breaks that 93F mark and the hot spots never breaks 91.0-91.9

    ok thanks guys

    Re: Helix Question

he helix is dead on but you loseing some heat between the surface of the heting element and the prode..could be a draft, cooler air temps, could even be the tub or tank transfering some heat away from the probe..

I have two rack that are set to 105 so they get a 92 degree hot spot..just cause they are on an outside wall in a corner they stay a little cooler..
