I think the most important thing is prescenting so they know to expect food. I defrost my rats in the same room as the snakes so they get plenty of warning.

That and really heating the head with the hairdrier seem to make the biggest difference to me.

Thanks.

He is in a tank in my bedroom. I thawed the rat in the bathroom sink, in a plastic bag submerged in warm water. After it thawed there was quite a bit of water in the bag, so maybe the bag is unnecessary as I ended up drying it anyway. Next time I may try putting it straight into a bowl of water in the room, but now that I think of it, I have a live rat housed in the same room right now. Last night before I went to bed I opened the tub I have the rat in to check his food and such and the smell was apparent to me with a terrible nose so I'm sure he noticed. I set everything back, turned the light off and got in bed. Seconds later I heard a couple hisses, or maybe my dog was sniffing outside my door. I got up and turned the light on and he was out and looking to strike. After the first time I fed him I thought he was hungry a few days later when I held him. I think he's still hungry now because he's already hanging his head out of his hide, though most of his body is in there. I might try to feed him again on Wednesday, less than three days later but more than 48 to allow for digestion, just to test my feeling.

The thawing process I learned from these forums and it worked well.
