New Borneo ??
I know I kept sayin that I don’t have the space, but I just put a deposit on a female Borneo. She is a little over three feet long, I think, feeding on large rats. I have to pick her up in January and I need some help from my friends here at BP.net. I have to do some quick building (not a problem). Could you please tell me what’s the best kind of enclosure to house Borneo’s? Should I go with flex watt or a RHP? I really want to be ready for her in January. Also what’s the best way to verify sex? Probing, popping, other? Are there any really good books out there that I should acquire?

Re: New Borneo ??
Hey Sandy.
Any 4 x 2 enclosure will work well. I switched over to the Iris VE175 tubs and they're PERFECT, and they're 52 x 20 x 13 or so. I WAS using Animal Plastics T-10's and those worked perfect, good solid cages.
I hated RHP's so I don't recommend them for Ground Pounders. Arboreal species keepers seem to like them though. I used Flexwatt for the cages, the new 175 rack uses it as Dual Side Radiant Heat.
No books at the moment, the Barkers over at VPI are supposedly working on a book though.
Have you looked up feeding schedules, temperatures, humidity etc etc for the Blood and Short Tail Python species?

Re: New Borneo ??
2kdime,
Thank you so much for the advice. I have a lot of questions. Temps should be mid, upper 80s? Humidity should be high, like 75% or better? Feeding schedule, once a week?
Does the 175 rack have 52”s of flex watt on each side? Or is there a gradient? I can’t find any tubs big enough local so I will have to order them from the tub guy I guess.

Re: New Borneo ??
The tubs can be found at Walmart this time of year in the Lawn and Garden center.
The 175 rack uses a strip of heat up each side of the whole rack in the back sides.
Temps-80 to 82 cool side/ambients, 86 degree hot spot
Humidity-60 to 75%, I keep mine around 70%.
Feeding-adult animals can eat once a week to once every 6 weeks depending on each individual animal. There's a good chart over on the bloodpythons.com website to gauge their weight.
My adult male is eating once a week to once every 2 weeks, the female is eating every 3 weeks. Both are eating Large Rats.
A good regimen seems to be a Medium Rat every 2 weeks for most adults though.
Feel free to sign up over on that forum or ask any questions here, there's a few Blood and Short Tail people on here, and we're always willing to help out.
