    Re: whats the diffrence

Here's my Lesser - I don't think there's anything about him that is duller, muted, less bright or less color than any butter I've seen:

Like BG and pfan151 said (and my lesser came from pfan151, btw), buy what appeals to you, and don't worry about whether it's a lesser or a butter.

I'll put my lesser up against any butter, any day and say he's just as bright and colorful as they are. I can't wait to see how my boy matures, especially since they get lighter as they mature.

    Re: whats the diffrence

    That is a beautiful lesser!!!

Personally I think you see more variances in these two morphs than allot of others. And I probably should have used the word "softer" instead of muted. No put down to those that have lessers!!! Hope I did not come accross like that!

Some seem to turn almost like a greenish....some have their brown stay very chocolate and there yellow stay light like Rabernet (sorry I think I just butchered your name).

As others have said....look around. They really do the same thing and are very very very similar. My original choice was a lesser...that is what I was set on getting. I went to a show...(knew my breeder had a butter) but was not committing to anything. I looked around...saw two lessers and two butters. I liked this paticular butter over the lessers that were available.

I can only hope that she will hold true to her coloring...and not wash out more as she gets older. We will see!!

I've got one for you guys....

If you breed a lesser x butter will you get a super that will produce all of the same snake when bred to a normal?

Or will you have a butter x lesser cross that is not a super, just a double mutation that has the chance of producing normals when bred to a normal?

Lesser x butter does produce a super because they are the same exact morph. There would be no way to tell apart a lesser x butters supers babies when bred to a normal.

in the ball pythons book from vpi they show the comparison of the two!

    1.0 lemon pastel yellow belly
    0.1 lemon pastel
    and the addiction begins!

That book was written quite a while ago now. More is known about lessers/butters now than when the book was written. Bottom line is that they are a very variable morph. I could take a comparison pic of two babies from the same clutch and they could look quite different.

Sorry I don't have any lesser pics! However to me...and mind you...I have not been doing this very long...I think Lessers are a little bit more subtle in color....a bit more muted. Samantha just had her first shed with us and I swear I think she got brighter in color. Her blushing to me is quite amazing.

This is a picture of my male Lesser and it just goes to show that there is really no difference it is more just a different name
