    Fun with statistics

There are ~300 million US citizens today.

HSUS boasts a membership of over 10 million people.

For the sake of this experiment, let's say that, as a US organization, all members of HSUS reside in the US.

This means on average 1 in 30 people is a HSUS member.

Let's look at some other statistics.

In 2003-2004, there were just over 16,000 murders per year in the US.

If we assume that being a HSUS member has no correlation to likelihood of being a murderer, this means that HSUS members are quite likely responsible for over 500 murders a year.

Okay, so maybe being someone who contributes to animal welfare MIGHT be a little less inclined towards murder. Instead, let's play with a more fun statistic: CAR CRASHES.

well over 45,000 people in the US die in car crashes every year. There can be no argument that somehow being charitable towards HSUS provides any kind of "better driver" ability, at least none that I know of.

I also believe that 99% of car crash deaths are preventable, meaning that someone was at fault. I have no data to back this up, but I think it is reasonable to assume that pretty much all car crashes resulting in death are caused by negligence, drunk driving, distractions etc. rather than brain aneurysms or acts of nature. This means blame lies with people.

We can assign 1/30 of the blame of those 45,000+ deaths EVERY YEAR to HSUS members.

Therefore, we have this fun statement: HSUS members are responsible for ONE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED PREVENTABLE DEATHS EVERY YEAR.

Maybe all of what I have written above isn't perfect in logic, but I thought it might be fun to get the gist across.

Well, I think it's obvious what needs to be done. Add HSUS members to the Lacey Act. Call your congressman today.
