Male. Your Female Fire is already a yearling. Get the male super and by the time your female will be ready you'll be set. If you do it the other way around you'll be a year behind. You could breed a 2yr old female if shes close to weight. 1300-1500g.

Re: what will you buy
I dunno,
I would be awfully tempted to go for the female super pastel.
My reasoning being by the time it is up to breeding weight he will have had two seasons breeding fires using the normal female x male fire and one year with a shot at the black eyes leucistic with the female fire x male fire.
If he lucks out and gets a male BLKel then he would get a clutch with nothing but fireflies gauranteed when pairing it with the female super pastel.
But then for the price of a 2010 female superpastel you might be able to get a 2008 or at worst a 2009 female pastel. O.k. the odds aren't as good but you still have a shot at both fireflies and BLKels in one or two years.
Or of course you could just buy a female firefly.
What kind of differences are we talking in price between a baby female superpastel, an older female pastel and a baby firefly?

Re: what will you buy
For reasons that were previously mentioned by dr del, I would get a female. Your male fire could pair up with multiple females. A female can only have one clutch at a time so having more males than females isn't ideal to me. Only problem is if you want to do this next year a super pastel female that will be ready by then will probably be over $1000 versus an 09 male super pastel which I see around ~$500.
Need to figure out where your goals and budget line up best.
