    Humidity Question?

I've had my BP for 5 weeks or so, 4 months old. No problem eating, rat pups once a week. I have her in a 10 gallon with UTH and 60 Watt ceramic on top. Wired mesh top with plexiglass over most of it, except for heater. House temp been running 70. High side temp is around 86-90 and low side is 75-80. I mist the tank twice a day, but the humidity is around 40%. You would think in Central Florida it would be higher. I had a bad shed last time, so I'm trying to get a handle on this. I have some sphagum moss on the way, what should I do with it? There isnt too much room with the water bowl, 2 hides and a tree branch. Should I put some of the moss on a dish and wet it? Am I being too anal about the humidity and the bad shed? I've read a million different things. Thanks

    Re: Humidity Question?

I'm a noob but from my research the low humidity is probably directly related to the bad shed. Increase the humidity, maybe a bath, and your snake should do better.

Mine was in the same boat when I rescued him and hes doing great now that the humidity has been increased, along with some other changes in his cage.

this is true and will help I've done it for my blood.. take a tub-a-ware container with a lid, about the same size as one of your hides. with the lid on cut a hole the size of the tight hide hole in one of the sides, put the spagum moss in and soak it with water, drain out the excess and place it where you have one of your tight hides. that should help.. I've also been told that having lamps help to pull the humidity out of the tanks.. good luck, cheers

    Re: Humidity Question?

The ceramic heat emitter is what is dropping your humidity. Being in Florida I assume you have air conditioning which is also lowering the over-all house humidity.

You could try using cypress mulch substrate or making a humid hide.

I basically just use a plastic container with a hole cut in the side and I put damp moss in it. Just make sure to change out the moss every couple days and that should help during a shed.

Other then that there isn't a whole lot you can do other than change to a tub

Tub or a Vision cage . I'll tell you having perfect 50-60% humidity at all times is very nice. Also I can increase the humidity a bunch by either covering the back vent on my Vision cage or just using a tub with less holes. Tanks just get too much to deal with just to be able to have a prettier display for your snake.

    Re: Humidity Question?

Try a larger water bowl at least half way under the 60 watt CHE I bet that brings it up.
