    First Ball Pythons...

On October 23 I finally got my first Ball Python, I debated it for an hour but there was a sale on them for 50% off and I've wanted a Spider for the longest time. So I went ahead and treated myself to one of the little cuties.

Here he is...his name is Cynric. Wish I would have taken some pictures with my camera instead of my phone. He's going through his second shed for me right now so I wouldn't want to disturb him at the moment.

And then not two weeks later on November 4th my boyfriend brought home a tiny little guy that's a Possible 66% het for ghost (One parent was a normal, and the other a Ghost...guess we'd have to breed him to find out for sure?). We've been calling him Jumbo.

Nice snakes.. On the 66% het ghost if one parent was a ghost he is 100%het. you get a 66% het from het to het breeding.

Hmmm...okay. Since I actually wasn't there and didn't get to drill the breeder with my questions I'm not 100% certain on that, oh well.

Thanks for the info, I find it hard finding info about their genetics for beginners.

    Re: First Ball Pythons...

Here is a good site on genetics. http://www.worldofballpythons.com/wizard and if you breed a heterozygous or het x normal you get 50%hets meaning every baby has a 50% chance of being a het. if you breed het x het you get 66% hets same as above each baby has 66% chance of being a het and if you breed a homozygous x normal you get all 100% hets and homozygous to het gets half the baby's 100% hets and the other half homozygous on average.

Thank you, I'll have to keep this in mind, I'm interested in sometime getting a female pastel or something, I think it'd be interesting to see what Cynric's babies could look like with a good-looking female and I'm finding I love ball pythons more and more as time goes by. I'm finding they're like potato chips...you get one and you don't want to stop.

Yes it is hard to stop once you get going. But I dont regret any of the ones I have bought and I have 15 of them now. Just make sure you have adequate caging and food for them before you get too many.

Yeah, I've turned down some awesome babies I've run across simply because of that.

We're currently building a large tegu cage so my funds for extras are set back a bit.

I really like your cage on iHerp, was wanting to create something similar for balls at some point, you can never have too many cages, aquariums, and supplies in my opinion. Never know when you run across something amazing...I just got an Argentine Tegu for free, ended up converting my bathroom into a cage, mounted UV lights on the walls and everything while we build a 7' long cage for her.

Cool post some pics of the cage when its done. I have a friend who has a black throat monitor he is in a 75 gallon bow front aquarium right now but quickly out growing it so he will need a larger cage before too long.

    Re: First Ball Pythons...

Hehe, yeah. This thing would have to be sold with our house, we can't fit it through ANY doors. The little one I got is about 35" long, she's really small for her age (over a year) and I swear she's grown five inches since I got her a couple weeks ago. It's insane.
