    HELP! whistling?

So i just took my snake out and it seems there is a slight whistle. She isnt breathing open mouthed or anything. She did seem a little stressed out when i took her out. I noticed today that her color is changing and its time for a shed. im thinkin is this part of shedding or being stressed? or does she have a respitory infection

    Temps of tank
    hot side- 90
    Cool side- 75-80

    Humidity: 50%- 60%

    Substrate: Aspen

Heating: UTH and bulbs... three thermometers in tank one a digital with probe, no thermostat yet.. tmr is the day.

If its respitory infection i was told to turn up the heat so im going to see how that goes.

What do u guys think, should i go to a Vet ASAP or wait a day or two and see if it stops.

She doesnt whistle constantly, its hard to hear and sometimes u have to wait a while to hear it again. She is starting to shed i heard that could be it. Shes in the early stages of Shedding.

    HELP

    Re: HELP! whistling?

It is very common for snakes to whistle when in shed. Your temperatures and humidity seem good as well, but a thermostat is definitely in order. I'm not saying there's no way it's an Upper Respiratory Infection, but with the information given I'd have to say it's just skin tightening her nasal passages as a result of going into shed that's making her whistle. Good luck, and I hope she's fine!

    Cheers,
    -Matt

    Re: HELP! whistling?

I'd agree with Matt... I often notice a "whistle" right before or after a shed, which is caused by dry skin covering the nose. I wouldn't worry unless it continues after the shed is complete, or if you notice other RI symptoms - like mucus bubbles, wheezing or gurgling.

    Re: HELP! whistling?

u guys r great thanks. i was so worried. shes my new baby and shes like my kid now so i had to see what was up asap. ill give ya an update in the morning to see if shes still making noises.
does this whistling thing happen often during shed? should i expect it every time she sheds? and how long does the whistle last in the shedding process?

ill def still check for mucus and bubbling. so far no open mouth breathing or anything

    Re: HELP! whistling?

she should stop whistling once she sheds. unless some stuck shed is in her nose. its prolly not an RI cuz mine was popping when she first started. if it is an RI dont wait too long to see a vet. it will kill or snake if let untreated. good luck

Maybe she don't know the words? You do know snakes don't hear very well? You just need to turn up the music.
