Ok now some of you will think this is crazy and might be a good way to get bit but for me it works.
Have any of you experienced the over curious baby bp?
My babies have had this feeding issue from day one. They want to eat and if you assist them they take thier mouse no prob. Just slightly popping it in the front of thier mouth and they coil up and eat. I always try and dangle it in front of them and they have all sorts of interest but then they see the lid is open. Thier attention is turned to , gee whats out there?
Well I found a way to get them to take the mouse. I simply hold the baby and put the mouse,(nice and warm, warmer then your body temp) in front of thier face. This is working like a charm and their attention is all on thier dinner. After doing this a few times I have found thier feeding responce has improved. Not sure why holding them fixes thier focus but hey, if the shoe fits.
I know this is a good way to get bit but its a baby so I am not worried, and you could always wear gloves. I wouldnt do this with an older bp, just babies.
Anyone else try this?

HMMMMMM. BG finds this hard to believe, but BG may try it.

I have a couple that actually struck and coiled for the first time while I was holding them thinking of assist feeding.

I put it down to the desire to bite me leading to the accidental "ooooo this is food" discovery.

But BG's tip of putting the stubborn eaters on aspen instead of paper towels worked amazingly for me.

Why is aspen bedding superior to paper towels (or newspaper in my case)?

I have not a single clue - lots of possible reasons but no clue which of them is the real one.

But, in my case, the snakes had been kept on paper towels since the 24th of September and had not eaten successfully on their own but I changed the substrate to shredded aspen on the 18th of November and all three hatchlings involved ate on the 20th of November and at each offering since.

Whether it is the smell, the simple act of changing the tank, the way it affects heat transfer or some other factor I wish I knew.

Once they seem to be on a good steady eating schedule I might try switching some of them back to see if they still eat.

I'd expect the tip to lead to nothing more than talking in the third person and an overwhelming belief of self importance.

I think they feel more secure because they can hide in it and they feel it on their sides(a sense of being hidden)! They can't do that with newspaper!
