What secondary foods do you give to your rats?

I primarily feed mine rat food blocks that walmart sells because I don't know where to get bulk lab blocks, but on top of that I have this little wooden car that I put peanut butter in for them to eat out of it, and I also feed them these rawhide + chicken sticks so they have something extra to chew on that adds some extra protein.

Re: What secondary foods do you give to your rats?

I found a semi-local (45 minute drive from me) feed store (Co-Op) that sells the 50 lb bags of Mazuri lab block for $24.99 each, so I buy mine there. You can also go to Mazuri's website and find a dealer near you, if that helps. Many feed stores can also order the lab block for you if you ask. I use the Mazuri 5M30 (that's the part/stock #) aka the Mazuri 6F Lab Block.

All I feed mine are lab block, mainly because I'm so busy that I don't have time to cut up/prepare extras for them, like fruit or veggies. But they get all the lab blocks they want to eat, and always have plenty of fresh water available.

I've heard grapes can be bad for them, so I would feed them in moderation. Peanut butter is also advised against because it can get in their throat and cause them to choke.

My rodents (I just got two new rats!) get Mazuri Lab Block, occasional dog kibble since I'm still waiting to see if a local pet store can order in a 50lb bag of Mazuri for me.

They also get fresh fruits and veggies, greens, oatmeal. They love broccoli, carrots, and apples. I buy meat baby foods for my ferrets as treats so on occasion they will get a taste of this and sometimes I'll get them baby foods as treats. Ben, my berkshire male LOVES veggie baby food.

My rats get my frozen meals i make for my tortoise. I mix up tons of greens, carrots, butternut squash, strawberries and freez them in ziplock bags. I make about a years worth. I just cut off a small chunk and drop it in the cage still frozen. They love it. Its like icecream to them.

Pizza crust, sunflower seeds and plenty of vegetables and fruit. I also love to give everyone a little dog kibble and then just sit in the room and enjoy the noise!

I give my milkbones, those dog buscuits like once a week and if they behave they get some cheese or some apple. They go crazy for either!
