    Exclamation severly dehydrated HELP!!!

Well today i was feeding my animals. When I came to my 08 Borneo whom was always a little pig I noticed she was in her hide which she never uses. I didn't think anything of it at the time threw a rat in and moved on to the next. Well about an hour later I checked on everyone to make sure they all ate and I saw her rat sitting in the same spot. I removed her hide and found her in an extremely emaciated state. I mean severely dehydrated. She was out of water but I just did my water checks on Wednesday and filled her bowl up. My question is what can I do at home to help her out. I was trying to use a syringe to force feed her some water but to no avail she just regurgitates it once I set her down. I normally would take my animals to a vet but times are very tough right now and my pay check was about 500 short due to lack of work so I really cant afford it. I also tried some of the unflavored pedialyte (sp) but she just wont hold it down. Im afraid if she doesnt start to drink on her own soon that she wont make it more than a day or two. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

P.s just for those who are wondering she is currently in QT just in case its something contagious.

I tried that but its worth trying again. I just got her to keep some pedialyte down so hopefully she will pull through. THanks.

    Re: severly dehydrated HELP!!!

    SOAK SOAK SOAK

Keep an eye on her though as so she doesn't drown, obviously just make the water real shallow and cap the thing off and stick it over the warm side of her cage if your providing a hotspot. Soak for hours if you need to.

I will tell you that Bloods and Short Tails need fresh water every other day to every day, they just won't drink old water.

I'd worry less about trying to force stuff down her right now and work on soaking the crap out of her. I wouldn't try to force stuff down her throat without seeing a vet.

What are your temperatures and humidity like?

Could she be in some stage of a shed? My animals get pretty funky looking at one point in the shed cycle.

    Pictures?

    Re: severly dehydrated HELP!!!

MY temps are roughly 90 hot side to 80-83 cool side. humidity is normally 45% or so Unless they are shedding then I spray. BUt she ever since she was little would always be in her bowl I mean 24/7 Until recently I switched to a small bowl that she can't fit in. I know its not a shed because i mean she had absolutly no strength at all and shes maybe 2/3 her normal girth I will try to get some pics up I need to find my camera.

    Thanks.

    Re: severly dehydrated HELP!!!

    Pictures would help

90 is too hot for starters, get that hot spot down to no higher than 86, if any hot spot at all. The younger animals will freak out sometimes when given a hot spot. My 08 Borneos are kept at 82 degree ambients with no hot spot, just a hide and a water dish, and are thriving.

HUMIDITY 45%?! Man you better get that up to 65-70% CONSTANTLY, these are not ball pythons, they come from very tropical areas.

Soaking in her bowl would indicate too high of temps, too low of humidity or a problem such as mites.

Soak that animal like I was saying before, and get that environment dialed in. If she wants to soak in her cage/tub, let her, mine do it all the time.

Gotta remember, Balls and Borneo's are 2 totally different species.

    Get the temps down

    Humidity up

    Soak soak soak

    Re: severly dehydrated HELP!!!

Thanks. I just find it strange that my sumatran and borneo are soo different They are in the same rack with the same set ups and my sumatran is perfectly fine. I will have to move them to tanks again then to give them the correct temps NEver seemed to bother them before Let me go check on those temps again. I just started thinking my helix is set to 90 that doesn't mean that the temps in the tub are that high. Plus I run back heat not belly heat. Thanks for the help

    Re: severly dehydrated HELP!!!

Get Humidity up ASAP. Bloods love it humid and wet. Also they like it cooler. Get a good 83-85 hot side. If your already in a 80-83F room dont give hot spot at all. Cool side around 75 if room isnt heated.

75 is not too cold if your only giving a warm side of 85. I always aim for 10F difference.

But i keep all snakes at 81 room temp. some snakes dont get hot spots due to the warmer room.

But to the op drop them temps a bit on hot side and up humidity.
