My BP thinks he is a dog!

I know bp's are known to be secretive, need their privacy, etc. However, at my house, it is kind of difficult. With three kids and a dog, it seems it is always chaotic at our house.

When we first got our BP six months ago, I wasn't sure where to put his cage. Our basement is quieter than the rest of the house, but it also is colder (and it is where the kids' rooms are, so there was the potential of them messing with him). I finally decided to just put the cage in our living room (the busiest room of the house), and see how things went.

Well, after six months, he has never missed his weekly meal, is putting on weight, and has had nothing but perfect sheds. I wonder if he has adapted since he has been in this crazy environment for almost his entire life.

At times it seems like he likes the activity of the day. Many times I seem him peeking out of his hide, and occasianally if we are making a tastey meal I see him come out to investigate -- he acts a lot like our dog!

And if he wants his privacy he will retreat. The last few times I have fed him (after he has constricted the already dead rat), he will take it in his mouth, and go into his hide to complete his meal.

I just wanted to share my story -- I think it is fun how it seems as though he actually has a personality.

    Thanks,

    George

Make no mistake about it--they DO have individual personalities. Ball pythons may not be high on brain power, but they do have a limited but definite emotional range, and their personalities can range from bold to shy, outgoing to reserved, defensive to placid. It sounds like you have a fantastic pet.

That is awesome!! I love hearing about the BP's that have the fun personalities. I have 3, one is a baby and she just hates everyone still....lol, the other is a little older but still a baby and he tolerates us. But he does the cutest thing ...well I thought it was cute till I figured it out. He wags his tail everytime I hold him. It is adorable.....however I quickly found out it is always follwed by peeing on me. My oldest BP which is still only 5 months is like one of the kids. She LOVES being out with us. Sits and stares at the computer and plays video games with my son. (ok...so she doesn't push buttons) but she really likes to hang on his neck while he is on the computer, watching tv or playing video games. It is truly so cute!!

That is awesome!!! It is so great! My Pastel is the same way being that he has been raised in a fraternity for the first 4 months of his life so far. He is always out and people are always wanting to handle him so he is very very docile and doesnt care who handles him. He has never bit anyone or struck at them in any way. He has never refused a meal or had a bad shed. He even switched to rats deep in shed when he could hardly see. Im a lucky owner I think.

I agree that I think they adapt to the craziness and do just fine around it. Atleast ours have.

    Awww, what a cutie!

And I agree, they all have their own little personalities. My original female would stick her head out of the hide when I came home from work. It was like she was saying hi to me.

    That is adorable Eventide.

My mom lives with us and is 83 and convinced when she walks into the room Elizabeth is in and she calls her name that she comes out to see "grandma".

    Ok mom!!
