Also you guys ever hear of the girl who get herself and 5 friends killed because of a head on collision with a trailer while she was texting.

Anyone hear about that Veyron that was crashed in my home state of Texas recently?
The guy was texting.
1.6 million ended up sinking in a pond by the side of the road, I think near Galveston.

Bailey Goodman, that was the girl. New York, she texted moments before driving her SUV over the divider into oncoming traffic and into a trailer, killing all 5 people in the vehicle.

Every law that takes away a freedom is not a GOOD law. Sorry.

In 99% of situations I agree with you, but a few other driving laws:
speed limits?
drunk driving?
handicapped parking?
I never approve of laws that protect me from myself, but I do appreciate some laws that protect me from other people.
When the biggest danger to my life is other drivers, I get concerned.
45,000 driving deaths a year.
Ever 2 years is more deaths than all americans that died in vietnam.
Every year is ~15 september 11ths.
I suppose that it's a bigger issue for me because my parents regularly drive the Seward Highway in Alaska, which is notorious for head-on collisions. This past summer had a number of head-on collisions due to texting while driving.

Re: Finally, A Good Law for N.C.
Please note that I'm not exactly on board with illegalizing texting while driving.
I'm definitely of the opinion that it is dangerous and idiotic, especially at anything other than bumper-to-bumper traffic or while stopped.
There is a tipping point of how much security does a law that limits actions provide compared to how much it actually limits actions, and texting is right on that borderline personally.

Driving is a privilege my friend. Not a freedom or a right.
There are laws for the road for reasons, not just to take away our 'freedoms'. They are to enforce safety in a 2 ton death machine that could easily kill yourself and people around you.
Texting while driving is dangerous to others around you. If it's dangerous to yourself, that's your own business and right. But if it's dangerous to others, you don't have that right to endanger anyone else in such a way.
There have been studies that show that texting while driving disorients and distracts the driver to a level worse than a drunk driver. So, would you agree that drinking and driving should be legal too?
