    Room-Mate vent thread!

Well, our roomies are gone now for good; but I thought that this could be an interesting topic. I will commence to vent about our former roommates!

We moved to Cali, from NY. The agreement was, that we would settle in, and the roomies would join us in a month. OK. They were also to get jobs; my husband actually secured roomie 2, a good job tattooing. OK.

Fast-forward. The roomies got here, and for the first month, they put-off their job searches. Roomie 2 refused to work at the tattoo shop that my husband secured for her, because "she could not function getting up early ((like before noon...") Roomie 1, her boyfriend, turned down two foodservice jobs because they both wanted him to cut his goatee and take out his facial piercings.

So! Roomies treated our apartment, as their own. They came and went at all hours, LOUDLY, when hubby and I had to wake up for actual WORK, which they seem to not udnerstand the concept of. So.. one night it came to a head. They were up until 3am in our room, playing Playstation.. I KINDLY asked them to stop, because I could not sleep.. they both acted put-off and complained, and only stopped after about a half hour..

So last week, I stopped being a doormat. I demanded that they look for a new place, since demands for them to at least look for work, had fallen on deaf ears. They are now living somewhere in San Fran in their van. They both have family back east that would gladly pay for their return and house them. I know this from personal experience hearing them say it.

Would you feel bad? I sure don't. They've told a mutual friend that living in their van is "1000 times better than living with those losere"(meaning us.) I think that we got bilked. You?

I am SO glad that they are gone! Hubby and I have slept better in the past few nights than anytime since they arrived.

Big Gunns tried to play "devils advocate", but he just can't see the freeloaders side of it. You did the right thing.

ps. Although expecting anyone to get up before noon is asking a leetle much.

I have had some bad experiences with roomates too. I had to kick out one of my best friends cause he cant control his liqour intake and decides to get stupid and destructive with my property so out he went.

I def think you did the right thing, there is no reason for you to not live how you want to live because of someone else who cant respect the living situation.

Hard to believe someone would complain about having to get up before noon...heck I get up at 4:30am and while it does kinda stink, it sure is nice to have a job and be able to pay the bills! Good for you for showing them the door and giving them the boot!

    Re: Room-Mate vent thread!

i read your post, i feel bad for the situation you had come to.
at the end, i saw a question, i was very baffled by it when i read it after the story i just finished.
the question im speaking of is, would you feel bad?
what is there to feel bad for aside from the fact that these 2 humans cant get their life together, and by no fault to you at all.
so i ask you, what exactly would you feel bad about?

you say you moved from NY, they came with you i think?
i grew up in Brooklyn, if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere.
here in montreal, there are a ton of homeless/street kids who squeegee peoples windows, why, cause they didnt want to conform to life, or the world we live in, and that is how they chose to live.
    is it my problem, no.
yes, there are homeless who didnt choose that life, war vets, lost it all in whatever the case may-be, and i do feel pain for them.
for those who dont want to put in what the rest of us do to maintain a life, i say thats thier call, and fine by me just dont expect me to stop and feel bad when i see them on the street.
growing up, whenever i wanted something my mothers answers were always the same, "we dont have the money".
i never was mad at her for not being able to get me everything i wanted, so when i was 13 i got a job.
if you want things, you must work for them, it sounds like they have all they want, and if that makes them happy, why should you feel bad or guilty?

hope this helps you any, be well, best of luck.

I'm glad I don't have friends like that.

I also don't have a roommate, though I wish I had one sometimes. That's why I'm planning on getting a dog It's like a roommate who mooches off you, but SOOOO much more worth it!!

No I wouldn't feel bad. It's your home, and your rules. If they were roommates, they'd have been paying their share. Instead they were nothing more than mootches. Better for you that you kicked them out, and better for them, because letting them stay without any responsibility teaches them nothing in life.

Will they learn from this? Probably not. But at least you aren't putting up with it, and paying for two grown people to live off you.

    Re: Room-Mate vent thread!

Thanks everyone. I don't feel remorseful about them at all. Especially since I learned from a friend today, about some pretty nasty stuff that they're saying about us now. It has to do with things in the past that never happened. Luckily, my best friend from back in NY is respected by alot of people in the old neighborhood, and is setting things straight!

We lived in Buffalo. Granted, it is not NYC, and the cost of living is much lower. But it will be a great place for us to go back, recoup, recon, and get ready to buy that farm that we want. Especially with family who's willing to help us out.. and the tattoo shop. Mark was offered a shop here, that the owner can no longer afford; the rent is 3500 a month, just for the shop!! Rent in Buffalo will be less than 1k for the shop; it will definately pay off for him to own the shop in Bflo, rather than one here. Not to mention, Mark already has a tattoo following in Buffalo; people are mad with joy that he is coming back. Maybe our absence made them grow a bit fonder?!

They did not move out here with us; they drove by themselves about a month later.

They are nonconformists, to be sure. She has enormous dreadlocks; he was a mama's boy who threw in a few facial piercings and now thinks that he's a rebel. She's at least genuine in her identity from what I can see. I wish them the best in their van.
