quick question

My boyfriend and I have decided we would like to eventually pick up a leopard gecko. Eventually, we'll be buying a new tank for our BP and I was actually just wondering if our old tank would be any good for housing a leo for any period of time.
We have a 45 x 45 x 60 cm (18" x 18" x 24" (WxDxH)) exoterra. Here's a picture for ref: http://www.rainforeststationpets.com...rra/pt2607.jpg

If not, we'll probably just purchase something else and sell this one off.

They are more open land dwellers so more floorspace is key. That terrarium is good for something more 'climby' imo... I.E. a crested or something of that nature. I just recently purchased a 20gallon long tank for mine and my girlfriend's Leo's. Once I finish the background it'll be good to go.

So would a 10g long would be okay for a single leo?

A 10 gallon, IMO, is too small for an adult. It would be OK as a 'starter' tank but there is not a ton of room after you add a few hides, water dish, humid hide etc. A baby/juvie would still have enough wiggle room, but an adult would be pretty cramped.
I use 20 longs for my guys, much roomier for them

Just throwing in my 2 cents here.

Adults can do fine in a 10 gallon tank. Leopard geckos don't require 'roaming room' and often stay hidden anyway. Having too much open space can actually be stressful for them. I keep many of mine in a 10 gallon and they do great.

Many people keep leos in smaller enclosures (tubs) and they thrive as well. It may seemed cramped to us as humans but you have to remember they live in cramped rock crevaces in the wild.

Thanks! I'm getting paid out some sweet skrill from my unused vac pay this year so I think we might be making some purchases sooner rather than later.

A leo is still at the top of our list. cresties seem cool but the whole possibility of the tail falling off and not growing back (is that correct?) thing kind of turns us off. Day geckos are gorgeous but then I've read alot about them not really being into handling and more 'display' reptiles.

I'm more than willing to purchase the proper sized tank thats definitely not an issue. Making our minds up is the hard part

Hey! I was just letting you know that 10 gallon is a proper size. I've kept leos in a 20 gal before and most of them didn't utilize the space, lazy things.

Yes, cresties are spazzy and sometimes they do drop their tails. They are still just as cute without them, though! They aren't quite as laid back as leos - they are excellent jumpers and can get away from you pretty fast if you aren't paying attention (same for leos except they can't jump like a crestie. They can jump, though. Mostly a juvie thing.)

Good luck, I highly recommend leos but I might be a little biased

I think we will end up with a leo. Both my BF and I have younger cousins and they come over and just think its the coolest thing to hold our BP. It'd be nice to have a semi laid back lizard for them to hold as well.
